I know this could be a "how long is a piece of string" question but from the readers of this forum's experience how long has it taken to complete probate on a fairly simple estate.
Well below inheritance tax threshold
No property
One bank
One insurance company
I am just about to start the process so I am hoping for a smooth ride.
Thank you in advance.

It depends a lot on the individual companies.
Getting probate for my Dad was held up because one insurance company acted as if they'd never come across the situation we had - all for a tiny insurance of a few hundred pounds!0 -

Approx 6 weeks from when you both sign and send off the Probate forms.0

Thanks, I don't think I worded my question right, I did mean from sending the forms away to when they are returned. I realise that once the probate has been granted the rest can take a while. If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!0 -
Before you go leaping of with probate, check to see what limit his bank sets for releasing the funds without probate. I know Lloyds will release up to £50k and Barclays £30k.
I am in a similar position with with my mothers estate, which I should be able to wrap up quickly without the need go apply for probate.0 -
Once you've got probate things can move quickly.
Getting probate may be delayed because you may need to wait for a figure from HMRC for income tax owed/repayable before applying for the grant, and they aren't quick at providing that. However you may be able to put an estimated figure on the IHT205 if the deceased's affairs are simple and the tax liability is small and predictable because most income has already been taxed at source.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
