Cheery's country living adventure

Evening chums :hello:
Just popping in as I'm about to dive head first into YNAB for the first time in a couple of weeksso thought I'd get some moral courage from you lot first :rotfl:
Wish me luck:rotfl:
Probably been a spendy couple of weeks, although not too bad. Went to a conference, and off to another one this week (in Denmark though, so likely to be a bit more spendy than the last one  And while I can claim things back, I suspect the odd pastry and souvenir might slip out from my own funds...:rotfl: )
What else? Oh! I am sore and tired from doing a ridiculous 'adventure race' yesterday  Never again  :rotfl: Honestly, I am VERY glad I did it for the experience of wading up rivers and being waist deep in treacle-consistency mud and climbing over giant piles of hay bales but... it's not really an experience I will be repeating in a hurry :rotfl:
My arms are ever so sore - I'm not used to crawling through ditches or dragging myself up cargo nets  My hands are sore - I'm not used to crawling through concrete tunnels or having them caked in mud for hours at a time  My knees are sore, legs covered in scratches, and I am still COLD  :rotfl: :rotfl:
NOT helped by the fact that I started developing a cold yesterday morning so already had a sore throat and hacking cough (and period pain, to add insult to injury) - all BEFORE I threw myself into the race  It took us several hours when (for some baffling reason) I thought we'd be done in an hour:rotfl: :rotfl:
Today I have been mostly horizontal, and for quite a lot of the day submerged in hot water :rotfl:
Anyway, YNAB!0 -

It wasn't too bad actually, although i didn't get round to doing the cash stuff, only bank.
Main thing was i realised there isn't an automatic tanner set up from the savings account to the current to cover the drip feeds to the two new savings accounts - given that £1000 a month is going out i need to do some transferring pretty sharpish!
Oooh, and i forgot to give you a matched betting update! :j :j We've just reached the end of week 8 and i am at £1111 :money:
Very pleased! :j :j especially as I've now done all the main sign ups so this week has probably been fairly indicative of what will come in the future (and I've made £185 this week so long may it continue!) :money:
Just need to decide what to do with it now. I was very much of the opinion it should all go off the mortgage rather than funding lifestyle inflation - but i suspect one of our cars will die at least next year and it would be lovely to be able to afford an electric one...
Anyway, no need to decide that yet...0 -
Aventure race sounds horrendous Cheery!!  indeed! Well done for surviving though!
Great news on MBing. I think we've just made the decision (which means I have finally given in to DH's constant promotion of) to save for an electric car too. (DH works in the transport industry and has just had the first of his fully electric work vehicles delivered - of which he is rightfully proud.) Just have to do the saving first - but we've got a couple of years as he 'only' wants a second-hand Tesla Model 3 (and they've only just come out). It will save hugely on fuel and fit well with our environmental principles... just a lot of money!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Wow - well done on the MB Cheery!
That is quite some profit & a nice chunk towards a new car when it's needed
Hope you are recovering well from the survival course:eek::eek::eek: I can't imagine ever in a million years participating in that!!! Hope the recovery from the aches & pains goes well.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Yep, thats not adventure, thats definitely survival! And congratulations/ commiserations ...
Also congratulations on the MBing profit - I'm sure I took a year to make that much when I was doing MB - great news!
Hope your lurgy isn't getting any worse - can't believe you managed all of that with a lurgy, poor you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi Cheery
I've just started reading your diary and look forward to keeping up with your adventures. We hope to move to the country soon so it's very inspiring

Welcome chicker :hello: where are you planning to move to? What's prompted it? Will you have animals? Do tell! :j :j
MadVix a Tesla?!  don't they cost about a million pounds?! best get saving!! I was thinking more of a second hand Renault Zoe :rotfl: but that would still be about 12 times the cost of our last car so we'll see
Slowly recovering from aches and pains although cold and runny nose still in full force and I am NOT looking forward to being on a train at 6am  feel like the packing has gone rather too well and convinced I've forgotten something vital (but I did forget to check in like a massive idiot and have now missed grabbing the seat next to my friend - what a plonker!)
Hey ho. Probably won't be that sociable til about lunchtime tomorrow anyway :rotfl:0 -
Urg, you're travelling with a cold like that? Take care of yourself, do. Sounds like you're going by TGV, not plane? I did it as a 21 year old on Interrail, not sure I'd fancy it now!
Hmm, Tesla - I confess, one of my nephews has one. My brother, who is an ace driver, looked after it for him when he was on holiday, so he drove it from London to Merseyside a couple of times. Turns out on a journey of that size, you *have* to use the superchargers rather than the chargers (you still wait 2 hours for it to charge) and of course that kills the batteries in a much shorter time than the gentle recharging. I think a Renault Zoe might be the way to go :A2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Definitely flying KC, in fact I just got on the plane! But I had to get the train to the airport first...
And yep, travelling with a cold. Wasn't really much else I could do really :rotfl:
We'll definitely be at the Zoe end of the spectrum, would have to remortgage the house for a tesla and it'd just get covered in mud anyway :rotfl: :rotfl:0
