Cheery's country living adventure

I should say you can still get plenty of hundreds from the welcome offers! Just not as many as in the good old days unfortunately...
It's definitely a time trade off for me. If we were wildly in debt you bet I'd be spending my evenings doing it. But we're not, and while raising extra for the kitchen fund is a goal, it's not one worth sacrificing much of my leisure time for (especially when I need that time for scything etc). So it's an hour a few evenings a week for me, which still adds up 😊
But let's see how it goes when the dosh starts rolling in from Mr Cheery's accounts - I might feel differently! 😂9 -
Cheery, I'm very glad that the fraud was spotted and hope that you get the money back quickly.
Also hope you enjoyed your time with your sister's dog.
We had a lovely time in Bath and did, indeed, spend time at the spa. Unfortunately, it is set over 4 floors and the lifts weren't workingI did manage but it was a struggle and meant that I didn't get as much benefit as I would have. The lifts weren't working at the Roman Baths the day before either! We did get a lot of rain on Thursday but the weather wasn't too bad otherwise.
We will see our son again for OH's birthday in 8 weeks time. Sooner would be nice but he starts a new job tomorrow and hopes to complete on the purchase of his first place later this month (not to mention that he has a newish girlfriend), so I suspect that seeing us won't be high on his list of priorities at the moment! It's not difficult!

So am I beanie! 😮
Glad you had a nice time in Bath hb, but pah to the lifts not working, how ridiculous. Hope you managed to enjoy it a bit at least. And it does sound rather like your son has his hands full right now!
I'm investigating options for work clothes. I don't normally dress up much, but I do tend to be smarter than normal jeans and jumper gardening clothes 😂 I've continued to wear normal worl clothes at home the past 18 months while working, but now only have one skirt that fits 😮 and one dress that I can get in, but is rather too stretchy...
I suspect the start of face to face teaching will be weird enough without feeling self conscious... So I will buy a couple of outfits, nothing fancy. I've got boots, they just need a good clean, and have just bought a couple of pairs of decently fitting tights to swap for my shabby wrinkly (but much loved) woolly leggings that I usually wear under a dress. Just need actual dress now!
I was aiming for a charity shop, but lots of ours still don't have changing rooms open. Not sure whether to risk ebay - maybe just places i can send back if necessary??
Starting to feel it'd be easier to just pull my finger out and lost half a stone - at least then I'd fit into a couple more outfits and could work from there 🙄😂8 -
Gosh, I'm just racking up the fiasco this week. Finally made it swimming this morning, but when I came out couldn't find my phone. Turns out I'd dropped it in the road, and several people had run over it 🙄 there's a damaged bit of actual screen in the top right, and I don't seem to be able to ress the top quarter of the screen (so have to turn it landscape to enter a web address). The screen looks awfully cracked, but it's got a hard cover on it, so I'm hoping most of the cracks will peel off...
Yawn. I'll get a new phone if I have to, but I'd rather not add another thing to the list right now!7 -
Oh no, turns out it's not a hard cover - that was the old phone, this is a sturdy flexible one, which has survived being dropped several times... but all those millions of cracks are the actual screen... 🙄7

Oh heck - that's not ideal with the phone is it! You'd think that *someone* would have noticed you drop the phone before it got repeatedly driven over!
Slightly with you on the clothes thing - I've pretty much lived in either active or casual leggings over the past months, meaning that returning to more "structured" clothing doesn't feel as comfy as it might, plus things are definitely a little tighter than they were, too. I'll instigate a rather more plant-based meal plan for a while I think, plus watching the tendency to snack that may have crept in a bit... (making sure I'm saying that AFTER we noshed through a bag of Bombay Mix between us last night, mind you!) Thankfully at the moment we're still being relatively casual in the office so I can get away with "tidy" black leggings (but not my Lucy Locket ones, sadly!), and a pair of very stretchy black jeans, and my favourite skirt...only being in a couple of days a week is definitely helping too, but I do probably need a bit more choice of clothing available inside the next month...🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Tis indeed a shame nobody noticed the phone. Not a busy road though, so when I first spotted it, I was hopeful... but alas...
Had a chat with the builder this morning. They'd not realised we wanted an extra radiator (I'm sure we did have a conversation about it) so that's a bit of extra plumbing to do (we already have the radiator!)
None of us had realised how narrow the bedroom door would end up being, supposedly a 'standard' 27 inch door, but the door we actually have is 30 inches 🙄 Mr Cheery is in favouur of them leaving off the door frame so we can figure it out ourselves...
I'd asked if while they were plastering, they could do the stairs, since they'd have to do the ceiling of the stairs anyway because of the way the cladding from the bedroom was attached. They'd said yes, but it now looks like it's going to be a bigger job than just skimming, and they don't have time. Which is fine - but is partly what's ed to the doorframe being so narrow (far too complicated to explain or edit on this stupid phone so you'll just have to take my word for it!)
Anyway. They should be done by the end of next week for their bit 😮 then we have to wait for kitchen fitters (apparently end of the month, which isn't too far off), then 2nd fix electrics will be between kitchen and worktops. So I'm hoping we'll be fully functional by mid October... and certainly before Christmas!
Feeling slightly like I've done something wrong today by supposedly not mentioning radiators (although I'm sure I did), and by being annoying about the door frame, and asking them to plaster the stairs 🙄 they're not being funny about any of it, I think we're just very ready to have our house back and not have people doing stuff to it that we don't have complete control over!
But of course we had plenty of time to do it ourselves and didn't, so...
Had an email from kitchen fitters - yes we can have a pull out spice rack. They've asked us to narrow down our granite choices, BEFORE they give us prices - I'm trying to word a polite email that expresses some frustration that it seems literally impossible to get any idea of which options are broadly cheap or expensive to narrow down choice. We're not going to go with our favourite even if it costs an extra £10k! Surely this is a normal way of buying things, looking at stuff in your price range, rather than looking at ALL the stuff. Can you imagine if we all just picked our 'favourite cars or houses, and then had to buy them regardless of the cost??
I don't know. Maybe there's only £50 difference between them and I'm being a fuss pot, but I don't know that because NOBODY WILL GIVE US ANY IDEA OF PRICE!
Oh dear. Think I need a lie down, this is feeing like a bit of a frustrating morning!!
I did just have leftovers for lunch though, so a few MSE points there... 🙄8 -
I wonder if they are having issues getting prices themselves at the moment? There do seem to be a lot of supply issues going on. I know this doesn't help you but may go to explain their reluctance!
