Cheery's country living adventure

You're doing brilliantly already Cheery! I like the idea of a small extra target though - nothing to put too much pressure on yourself, but just to give you an incentive to keep focused. But only, as Karma says, if you have time and it won't add more stress.
Glad the mystery of the heating has been solved!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Cheery - while paying the mortgage off early is important, don't do it at the expense of making the house comfortable to live in. It's taken me 7 years to get to the point where the kitchen is in and (apart from the excess furniture that needs shifting as a result) it has made life so much easier. Just make sure that you get the balance right, and you're not shivering under a blanket with no cooking facilities and no funds/time/resources to sort it out even though the mortgage has been paid of early. I also had to remind myself that no kitchen meant the house was unmortgageable, an therefore unsaleable, so in the event of me losing my job I didn't have a way out.
Just something to think about - you've done a fantastic job of overpaying so far, but it's worth reconsidering where the balance lies every so often.6 -
Cheery, your bin dilemmas did give me a good chuckle!
We have similar issues here with the rubbish, though none of it down to our own forgetfulness! We are at the end of the lane, but it is paved & wide enough to get the farm's tractor down, so the bin-men can easily come down & get our rubbish (...and are meant to!). There is also a huge farm yard just past the barn across the lane from us that they can turn around in - the veg delivery gent, grocery delivery trucks & the assorted amaz0n delivery drivers do so regularly. As well, the rubbish is always out, on it's own little 'landing pad' on the other side of the lane from our front gate! Despite all this, The bin men routinely 'forget' us, and I have watched then from an upstairs window pick up the neighbour's rubbish not even 10m away from our own, then reverse back out of the lane and leave ours where it is! 🤣🤣🤣
The lovely lady at the council just does not understand why they routinely miss us, as she can see the 'landing pad' clearly on g00gle earth, and has even circled it in red, drawn a big red arrow and provided the map to the waste collection company! We were told that we have the dubious honour of having called the council about missed pick-ups the most of anyone in the area, so much so that they now know OH's voice just from his saying hello 🤣🤣🤣 It's not a huge issue for the rubbish or recycling bins, as they are both enormous and take us a good long time to fill up. The glass bin however is tiny & only gets collected once a month, so is always full! (not that we drink that much wine - lol). I might just have to get OH to ask for an extra bin the next time he's chatting to the council lady! (not today as miraculously, they just picked it up as I was typing this!)4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 8 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 16 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!7 -
Oh dear RT! I think we're just going to leave our recycling out til they come back again (hopefully!!) next Friday
Hope we don't get a fly tipping fine!
technically it's actually our land, and it's in the council's recycling box, so...
Don't talk to me about glass bottles. We don't have a glass collection, and the tip was closed all through the first lockdown. We just slung them all in the coal shedI did take a car full a couple of months ago, but it's getting quite embarrassing again now
You're all right of course - I really don't have the time to be cultivating a highly unnecessary MB addiction right now, and would probably be better off just reducing spends a bit! Greenbee, good advice about the kitchen - although in our case what's holding things up isn't the money, but a combination of other things that I won't go into on hereI do wish I could just throw a load of cash at it and have an instant kitchen, but that isn't the reality of my life right now. DIY it is! I've got a few more battens up today
Had a lovely snowy walk with Mr Cheery this afternoon and now relaxing nicely into the eveningIf I don't get back in, I hope you all have a marvellous slide into 2021. Thank you for reading and posting, I love being part of this little corner of the internet xxx

As long as you're making sure you keep the money aside for the work so that it can be done when you need it! And you're warm and dry and happy
Enjoy the DIY...10 -
