Well, after all that fussing, we have spent most of the day so far in various cafes and spent £20 :eek: for goodness sake!!
Went to our normal cafe and spent £7.50 between us, then things got a little gloomy and we felt in need of some extra companytexted a friend who lives close by, and she was free, so we popped up to meet her in her local cafe. She's been signed off work with stress so I think it did us all good to be out of our various houses for a bit of socializing...
Thriftvember not going too well so far:eek: :rotfl:

End of evening update...
* [STRIKE]Washing on[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]Washing hung up[/STRIKE] Yes, and it's now all dry
* Order Mr Cheery's new bank card
* [STRIKE]YNAB and banks[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]Pay builder's invoice[/STRIKE] - yes, and got receipt
* [STRIKE]Stick new oil stuff in the car[/STRIKE] Yes, it says it might take 200 miles to work - drove it to band practice (20 miles round trip) and no sign of oil light etc Parked in a different place so I can check for new leaks
* Change sheets
* [STRIKE]MB[/STRIKE] Made £5 today, every little helps
* [STRIKE]Bit of flute practice[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE][STRIKE]Poo pick chicken run[/STRIKE][/STRIKE]
* Dismantle at least some of the temporary chicken fence and staple the plastic roof on - No, got sidetracked in cafe...
* Make something in slow cooker - No, had cereal for tea again :mad:
So not too bad. Mr Cheery is digging out his bank details as we speak so should hopefully be able to do that soon.
Had reply from builder about the loose bolts, and have emailed building regs bloke for advice (YAWN)
Realised I must have left my work laptop at work :mad: I was SO careful to consciously put my laptop plug in my bag (I've forgotten that before) that I think I've then just walked off and left the laptop itself behind! :rotfl::rotfl:
Less of a crisis, because I can just use my own laptop (some things will take a bit longer mind you). I just hope it IS in work, because if not, what on earth have I done with it?! :eek: Will get a colleague to check in the morning...0 -
Morning chums :hello:
Fortunately my laptop WAS still at work - what an idiot! Still can't find my keys though :eek::rotfl:
Now had reply from building regs, and another reply from builder, which I need to forward to building regs again. In some ways it would be useful to copy them both into all conversations, but it's useful to me to be able to express slight anxieties to building regs about what they've done without the builder knowing I'm questioning him
Anyway, nobody is quibbling, builder is happy to fix, but is understandably just checking it's *necessary* to fix (personally I think us wanting it fixed is enough but...)
Anyway, YAWN.
In other news, Mr Cheery is selling a couple of things that he's had for a while, and between them they've reached well over four figures :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: So if all goes well that'll cover more than the cost of the new car, and give us a bit leftover too, which is wonderful :j :j :j
Fingers crossed.
Definitely fingers crossed - because my union have just announced a strike :eek: :eek: :eek: Hoping negotiations proceed in a satisfactory fashion or else we'll lose from my wages more than we've made from this selling escapade... :eek:
So up and down, as usual. And we are back in the cafe, as usual.0 -
Ooh, hope you don't have to strike Cheery - I know it's important to be good with money *because* of things like that, but it kind of dents your enthusiasm if you're no further ahead after making the effort. Good news on the selling front though - well done Mr Cheery!
Have you put something in the slow cooker for tonight?Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ha - thanks for asking Vix (do you prefer Vix? Or madvix? Or TMV? Or something else??) Last night's tea is still in the slow cooker from yesterday - and I hope it tastes better than it did then
Going to stick it in the microwave for lunch, and then once the slow cooker is clear again I might attempt a lasagne! (Well, a kind-of-lasagne anyway, just layers of lentils, passatta, veg and lasagne sheets, and then I'll probably just add grated cheese to the top when it's done).
That's as exciting as it gets :rotfl:
Just did the Salary Calculator thing to work out how much I'd lose from the strike, and it works out as just over £900 ish - not an exact figure, but actually not as bad as I'd thought. And we can claim from a strike fund if necessary (works out about £300 in total I think) - I might try to leave that for people more in need but not sure what the rules are for it yet)
And if we DO strike hopefully that will ultimately mean a wage increase anyway... And on those days I might just spend the day focusing on MB and seeing if I can make more than my wages :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Oh my word! Well, glad about the laptop, but concerned for you about the strike. As you say,there are people more in need than you, but you *are* a union member after all. And with your bouncy, two-bolts-only floor, things are still a bit tricky! Hopefully it won't come to that.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Ooh, love the sound of the lazy lasagne - will have to give that a try. Do you precook the lentils? (I don't mind what you call me!
)
I think the idea of MBing to make more than your day job sounds like a fantastic way to spend the strike!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I've not done lasagne in the slowcooker before!
The woman who runs the local shop suggested it when I said we didn't have a kitchen :rotfl:
But I probably won't precook the lentils (just red ones, they don't take long). In fact I won't be doing it at all today because I forgot it was there and am currently eating porridge for lunch, so last night's tea is still in the slowcooker for tonight:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
A strike would save me four days of travel anyway so that's another £20 savedevery little helps after all! :rotfl:
