I had a new neighbour recently who took to parking right behind my driveway. So because she was parked in the left lane on approach to my house I was on the wrong side as I turned onto my drive and therefore couldn't make the turn and had to do a 3 point shuffle to get on my drive. The alternative was to reverse on....and have a 3 point shuffle to exit the following morning if she was still there. So deffered effort as 'Head The Ball' said, you've got the hassle one way or the other. I let it go as she wasn't parking illegally, just a little inconsiderately.

In the end thankfully after a couple of months she started parking outside her own house which annoyed no-one as has stayed there ever since. I was very relieved! I did wonder if her other neighbour had a word as she was forcing him to keep parking in different places depending on where she'd parked the car that day when he was used to having his same 'spot' outside his house for the last 5 years.

Why do you reverse out of your driveway? It's much easier and safer to reverse in and drive out. I never understand people who complain about parking but don't even have the sense/skill to reverse onto their driveway!.

At my last place it was much better to drive in & reverse out.

The narrow road was always busy as all hell around 4 - 6pm, (with the inevitable cars lining the roads).

But it was pretty much dead in the morning when I left for work.
So by reversing in when I got home from work I'd have been just causing hold-ups at a busy time, and for no benefit in the morning, when I had all the time in the world to reverse out.

    That's a good point.

The problem is the people who don't reverse onto their driveway because they have poor reversing skills then end up having to reverse into traffic when they leave which makes them more likely to hit a car.

Oh god agreed, yes I've seen that one enough times - I'm recalling a fella reversing out of his drive onto a main 40 limit road, causing mass braking terror...

The answer is simple, get a property with off street parking, otherwise it is tough luck. Public road means you take your chances.
  • As per a much earlier post, put out large scraps for birds. If you entice seagulls every day, the neighbour will soon get the messy message.

I'm appalled that the most popular responses don't include just actually speaking to people! Some people can be weird when approached, yes but lots of people are just downright self obsessed and thoughtless. My very first thought would be to go and see if we could work something out and it always amazes me that the British go-to action is to do nothing but sit at home and seethe. Talk to them!! All this talk of fights and punch ups, well, typically British, I guess. But SAD!!!

If the OP is seen putting food on the roof of the car and the roof is damaged by the birds, then it could get very messy for the OP. Criminally so as he/she would be causing criminal damage.

Put the food on the ground, on your property. Seagulls circle for ages and have poor bowel control :rotfl:

OP, I'd go with the 'blame the OH's poor driving', and you don't want their car to be damaged. Doesn't have to be true, but at least it can be taken as considerate behaviour.

Where I live, there is a daily 'battle' to get parked in our street before 5pm, never mind near your house. Otherwise you have to park in the next street. Our street and the next street are pretty much the same house wise, but for some reason our street has more cars than houses, and the next street is usually half empty. I changed my working pattern last year so that I'm home by 4:30 partly so that I didn't end up parking 100 yards from home.
