Houses are so subjective. One man's ugly is another man's plain. 2 recommendations for back to front. Very interesting. Thanks. Agree with Penitent that rendering would be a good idea. Think I'll have to have a chat with a builder to get an idea of how much it all might cost.0

I think the house frontage looks OK apart from the porch. Can't make out what it's faced with but perhaps a plain render on just the porch and new front door would look more modern.
I'd be planting the front garden with something more interesting than a drab hedge to give yourself a nice view from both inside and outside.
The back garden is a good size, I like it.0 -
I!!!8217;m more of an evolution sort of decorator. I like to live somewhere for a good few months before doing much, then I go bit by bit. What I!!!8217;ve done with a house after living there for a year is often miles away from what I imagined I!!!8217;d do when I first moved in.
Edit: That!!!8217;ll teach me not read much beyond the title. Assumed we were talking interiors.0 -
If you think your's is ugly, ours has 1960s green hung tiles from the lower windows right to the eaves on it. It's tempting to try and make it prettier, but then it would look out of keeping with the neighbouring properties.
To be honest though I think it can look worse when things like that are taken away. I live in a 60s-built house that has red hung tiles on half of the front. I like them as they give the house character and are a period feature. There are some houses on my street where the tiles have been taken off and the fronts rendered, and they just look so bland and not quite right. Other houses have had the tiles painted more 'modern' colours (like grey) and again, it looks a bit odd. There are lots of things I like about my house - it has decent sized rooms, big windows etc - and I think as many of the features should be preserved as they are what they are and were part of the original 'vision'. I can see in another 30 years people moaning as much about modernised 60s and 70s houses as they do now about modernised Victorian and Edwardian places.0 -
+1 the house is not ugly.
I like the layout. The interior is so 70s but can be fixed.0 -
What Amanda said, not ugly, fix the interior where you've got tons of space to work with.0

Replace the windows, render and clad.Officially in a clique of idiots0

Great spacious house, Do not render as this would detract from brickwork and require maintenance. front door is out of character and internal doors are a mish mash, glass might require changing to safety glass,
Mid century 50s,60s,70s very in at the moment visit fairs and check out scandinavian look.0
