Restyle 1960/70s house

Options
I can only find a 1960/70s house to buy in an area I want to live in. Does anyone know of any good sites to look at for ideas of how to turn it into an attractive looking house. Had a look on Pinterest and googled it, getting some ideas but would appreciate any other suggestions. Also if anyone has any idea of how much it would cost. It's a 4 bed detached in Crosby, Liverpool and needs everything doing, kitchen, bathroom etc. Thanks for any suggestions.

Personally I'd play to it's strengths rather than trying to turn it in to smething it isn't.

But that really depends on what its actually like - how much is it on for or can you post the rightmove link?

You mean restyling the outside? At some point what now looks old fashioned will become desirable - think of the way people moan about pebble dashing on Edwardian houses. I'd leave the exterior alone and concentrate on the interior.

This lot might give you an idea of the cost of half of the project....

Watch George Clarke's TV program Ugly House to Lovely House.

Most of it is too "architectural" for my liking, but it might give you some ideas.
  • Thanks for all your replies so far. Here's the link; ://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/46410612?swwwearch_identifier=c94938aa9c79983792a1673e500f081c#txDrwmXG13vZligL.97

+1 for it not being ugly, just plain. For that amount of internal space I'd not be worried about what it looks like from the outside.

It's not ugly. Personally, I don't like the replacement windows that have been put in as the openers are not in proportion. I would be looking at other houses in the area for an idea of how the windows would have looked originally and put it back to something more in keeping. The front door also needs changing as that style does not fit with the 70's.
    That's it!

    This would be an option?

If you think your's is ugly, ours has 1960s green hung tiles from the lower windows right to the eaves on it. It's tempting to try and make it prettier, but then it would look out of keeping with the neighbouring properties.

    Location won out with us.
