Outward Flight Cancellation

Options
Hello but I wonder if you can help me? I am very upset with my party’s booking management from Travel Republic.

We booked a package holiday and were flying to Alicante on Friday 2nd but the flight was cancelled. After calling Travel Republic, we were given the option of a full refund or to rebook another holiday. We chose the refund as it was a birthday celebration which we missed. Were told to call back Monday when we were told we would only get first flight refund.

Insurance tells us we are not covered because we did not accept an alternative flight. This is because Travel Republic misinformed us on the phone and said we would receive a full refund. No-one is to blame but Travel Republic themselves.

Travel Republic claim to be a safe and reputable company which is why we booked. We now know this is not the case. Not giving us our money back or the terrible management of our booking (we were told over the phone that we had to contact the hotel and return flight ourselves) is a clear sign that there is no care or investment in customers well-being.

My main issue with the whole thing is that we were lied to on the day the flight was cancelled. If this was not the case, we would have sought out other flight options but we chose not to based on Travel Republic’s misinformation. This is not acceptable and I strongly feel that the public must be aware of companies like Travel Republic not adhering to their own policies.

There are tons of complaints about Travel Republic out there already for those who do some research before they book. Basically the elements of your holiday were entirely separate, including it appears, the outbound and the inbound flight. This is why cancelling one has no bearing on the other. Many OTAs put holidays together in this way. If you want to avoid it you have to book a true package instead of cobbled together elements.

If you paid by credit card you may be to claim under section 75 as a breach of contract. Or sue via small claims court system.
