I found tesco value stir fry veg a bargain at £1 for a massive 500g bag, then another £1 for a bag of fresh noodles. Add meat like chicken (cheaper from local butchers as a rule) Depending how hungry you are, you can make these ingredients stretch to 4 meals for about a pound a serving.

Pasta bakes are a life saver too. An economy bag of pasta is around £1.50 for 2kg, value pasta sauce is around 30p a jar and a sprinkle of plastic boxed cheese, priceless. Erm, i mean, add a little cheese and one bake can keep a person going for a couple of days.

breadcrumbs made from stale bread or crushed ready salted crisps are great on top of pasta bake before you put the cheese on - makes it go crunchy

Tesco Value - Just look around - you'll be surprised at just what you can get;
