For what it's worth, Which? only gave this model 59% saying that it failed to impress, with unnatural colour, loss of detail in shadows, slow to start up and poor sound :(

Ask @wallofbeans on their https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5803716 thread as that's what they've got although they are getting a soundbar for it so I'm guessing the sounds not great (pretty typical for any flat panel really).

As an aside (or not maybe) is there any point in having 4K at just 40" screen size?

Edit: Genuine question as I don't have a clue.

It'll depend on how close you're sitting to the TV, anything over 6' then probably not.

Having said that, it's particularly difficult to get decent and cheap 1080p TV now as they all going 4K so whilst the OP may not fully benefit from 4K they can still get a decent TV for the price. Personally I'd buy the Samsung UE40MU6120 or MU6400 over the Panasonic (well I did actually ;) ).

What made you buy the Samsung UE40MU6120 if you dont mind me asking ??
And whats the difference between the MU6120 & the MU6400 ??

Which criticised my Panasonic for poor sound, but I don't think they noticed that it has two modes. Music does sound a bit thin if you listen to it on speech mode, but it's fine on music mode.
  • Another vote for the Samsung MU6120 series - £379, 479, 569 for 40, 50, 55in resp. Went to Currys on basis of value and good Which score intending to buy 50in but went for 55in and haven't regretted it even though only sit 10ft away. If further away would have been tempted by 58 or 60in versions.
Set-up is Sky Q, TV, Samsung sound bar and DVD player. Sky Q and DVD player connect to TV by HDMI, sound bar by digital optical cable. Sky Q remote switches on TV and sound bar (also switches off), and controls volume.

A lot of TV's these days have poor sound and require a sound bar of some kind.
The other issue is the reduced sound quality of TV programming. I regularly find I have to turn my TV up to almost full and then the adverts come on and I am deafened, so it shows you the issue is not the TV.
Anyway this TV gets decent reviews elsewhere including amazon etc. Which are not always right.

I bought it for my dad at Xmas, was originally looking at a couple of 1080p models from Sony & Panasonic but they were quite expensive for what they were and I managed to get a very good pricematch for the Samsung from John Lewis.

Not too sure about the difference between the 6400 and 6120 tbh, the 6400 is supposed to be "better" but I doubt it's worth the extra £100.
