You can consider it but the rise you may incur will be a fraction of your alleged salary.

    What fraction?

Probably 2/100 of your annual salary.

That's still a significant amount of money I'm going to lose because someone else wasn't paying attention to the road.

Unfortunately, that's life. It won't affect your no claims discount, but it's judged as your more likely to be in a accident for five years. It's a pain in the backside for everyone.

Im just surprised no one's commented that a quicker driver would have got out the way.

I think it's odd to bully someone who obeys the law, but it's ok, I can take it.

Insurers try to argue that if you've been in an accident then your chances of having another accident have increased. Personally I think that if you've been in one accident caused by someone else's inability to drive then you're less likely to be in another (would a lottery winner be statistically more likely to win if they played again?).

Insurance is nothing more than calculating the risk of you claiming based on statistics about other people/accidents. And statistically, drivers who make a claim where they aren't at fault will go on to make a claim where they are at fault.

Your premium calculation has absolutely nothing to do with how you drive personally - its purely based off generalised statistics. If you own a ford focus and ford focus drivers tend to get in more accidents, you will have higher premiums. If more cars are damaged or stolen in your area, it will increase your premium.

Your no claims bonus on the other hand, is a discount to the premium based on your personal driving history.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Ironically I was hit by a Focus.
  • Would a speed limiter on said Focus have helped?

    No?

    Thought not.
