First PIP Payment??? Confused - HELP

Hi guys,

I received my pip decision letter 3 weeks ago saying I have been awarded the standard living component.
I have never claimed benefits before and I’m confused as to when they will pay me my first payment?
The award is from 4th January 2018 - October 2019.

Does it take a while before your first payment arrives? At this point I’m due 9 weeks of payments?

Is the 4th January the date you made your PIP claim?

If you are awarded PIP it is paid from the date of your claim.

How long you have to wait depends on where you live/how busy they are/whether they are experiencing difficulties with staff shortages - maybe due to weather etc etc. There is no set time limit.

Your best option is to telephone them and ask.

You will have or should have recieved backdated money from the start of your claim. After this payments will be made every 4 weeks. You will need to count the time from when you recieved you back pay. If you haven't recieved back pay then you'll need to ring DWP to find out when you're going to recieve that money.

The OP has already been awarded PIP.

    I know!

What I meant was...............'anyone awarded PIP'.................that still doesn't sound right!
  • Thanks for your reply.

Yes I rang for the form on the 4th January.

6th February I received a letter saying I have been awarded PIP

I just haven’t had any payments yet so I’m slightly confused?

That's phenomenally quick time from application to decision. The letter telling you the decision should have had a break down of when you will be paid what, somehting along the lines of £x on date 1 and then £y every 4 weeks starting on date 2

Yes indeed that decision is very quick, although i have heard a few times that it's been quick. OP check that decision letter because as w06 has stated it will tell you at the bottom od the award letter all your mayment details and when to expect them. Seems a little odd to me why you haven't recieved any backdated money yet.
  • Thank you,
I guess it was pretty quick - I didn’t need an f2f assessment so maybe that’s the reason!

I’m going to give them a ring tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
  • Received over £2000 into my bank account for PIP. However haven't received any confirmation letter, so no idea what level or anything. What should I do??

Telephone them because we don't know what rates you were awarded.
