Morning everyone, thanks for the start Holly and hugs to you & all other members of the wide awake club.

Our pipes seem to be fine, DOH got up in the loft and directed me as we slowly turned the water back on, no cracks or bursts and we have hot water again :j
We had another pile of snow fall last night and everything is well covered again but it does seem warmer so hopefully this is the start of the end, DOH and eldest DSS are talking about heading to MK to watch the footie ( some player that DSS has been watching for his club ) they will check with the highways agency webcams before they go.
I have a bit of washing that needs catching up on and then will get over to see Lu.

Thinking of Csarina and her family, hope there is some better news soon.
Good boy Scampi, think little Tilly is going a bit stir crazy too TRU, we seem to be doing a constant running circle around the dining room table, trouble is she hates the snow and quickly wants to come back in, what I need is a doggy treadmill :rotfl:
How reassuring that so many people are checking on your Mum Gers, always say there a lot of good people in this world but it’s the few bad uns that get all the headlines.

Right, boiled egg and soldiers are calling. Take care folks x

Morning all. I'm late this morning.

It looks pretty bleak outside. No more snow during the night, but looks very icy. The temp is hovering round freezing.

I didn't go out yesterday. DH cleared the car and started the engine, it started first time. The car hasn't been moved since last Sunday, but DH will collect Dgd today, she is coming for the day. She only lives at the other end of the town, it's not far.

We are going to a fundraising event tonight, but it is within walking distance, and we've got our trusty gripper soles if we need them - they give you so much more confidence in walking when the weather is like this.

I did gammon in cola in the slow cooker yesterday - it was nice, but not as wonderful as I thought it would be!! Tonight there'll be a meal at the do we're going to, so won't have to cook

I hope you've had good news about your daughter Csarina.
Hope your knee is not too painful Gers.

Take care folks if you have to go out.

    Morning Everyone,

I entertained myself yesterday by getting through the large pile of ironing, and watching a lot of 'Places in the sun' shows.
More snow fell from 2pm yesterday and so today will be a day of staying in. I have paperwork to do today, and watching tv.
I will pop another load into the WM too.

Stay safe and warm everyone x

Nipping out after this to post an ebay sell.....to be honest I nearly chucked it so getting £22 was a real surprise ....its a couple of printer cartridges for a printer I no longer own. That has made clearing the room of doom out worthwhile for sure:) No snow at all now so wont be causing a problem by being on the road;)

Usual Saturday routine here befriending call first then of course James' for breakfast and some inspiration for food. Thinking maybe a curry today but Ill keep my mind open.

  • Well, I had an adventure coming home from work last night... My work decided a little too late to let people go early- between half 3 and 4pm instead of 5pm, even though a colleague had advised that the main station was cancelling all the train services. I got out just before 4, went down to the station, and waited an hour while the boards read that local trains (still not even going as far as home mind) were delayed.

Only after an hour did they decide to cancel the trains. I was really unsure how to proceed, whether to try and get a hotel room in the city, or get a bus that went a little more than halfway to home and get a taxi back.

After liaising with my Dad and my hubby on the phone, I decided to get on the bus. I was looking up taxi numbers on the internet on my phone, and not having much luck with finding anyone willing to take me home, and nearly got off the bus and headed back into Birmingham, but, too late, we were out of the city centre!

Shortly after that, my phone battery died, which sent me into a bit of a meltdown as I had no idea how I would then get home. At that point, a wonderful lady sat opposite calmed me down and said she would help me get back by taking me to the police station - if they couldn't get me back, then we could at least call for a taxi from there and I would be warm and safe. She walked me to the station, and we tried a few of the local taxi companies without success, but she rang a taxi company that she was a regular customer of, and persuaded them to pick me up. It was a projected 2 to 3 hr wait, but I was waiting for just under 2 hours before the taxi turned up, and got me home safely. I got home about 5 hours after I'd finished work. (normally takes about 1 hr)

After all that, I am mainly going to relax today. I may pop into town in a bit if I feel like it (it's within walking distance). Hubby may have got himself a little stranded at the hotel he works at, getting himself a taxi this morning, so I might be on my own until tomorrow.(apart from the cat)

    Morning((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need be.

Thank you for all the messages last night. Someone was looking out for my daughter yesterday.

My granddaughter phoned at 1.20 am this morning to say that C had serious concussion but the body scan had shown no other serious damage, she has been kept n hospital overnight and they will review the situation this morning. DGG is going back to the hospital later.

We have had more snow overnight and what had thawed yesterday is now frozen, so ice everywhere. There is no way I am taking the car out, it's senseless, one person in hospital us enough. We still do not know what actually happened, C remembers nothing.

Still in bed, will be getting up shortly.

11.30am Have just had a call from DGD, she has been in to see her Mum this morning, Unfortunately she is still vomiting, she can vomit for England when she starts, had two occasions when she was little when she banged her head, she was sick for 24+ hours!! Nine stitches in a head wound, badly bruised.

Her son went to the Police station this morning, a report has been filed and there were two witnesses. Apparently she crossed the road, outside a restaurant on Burton Road, there is a crossing there.......that is the last she remembers. It was a 3.5 tonne truck that hit her, so she has been lucky it could have been so very much worse. The hospital staff would not allow DGD to stay, so her Dad brought her home. I am not sure if they are going back later, will have to wait and see.

Thanks for the update csarina - and I'm glad it's good news.

You do absolutely the right thing to stay put! There is no point going out in this awful weather, you are in touch with the hospital and other family members who are closer and not risking their own life to get there. Stay safe and warm

I feel awful about not being with DM this weekend but am happy that she has got everything she needs (probably three of everything she needs!) and a great set of friends who are keeping in touch with her. She's happily fending off offers of help. I've seen the road conditions from Balloch on towards Glasgow. All these warnings sent out by the Met office / government mean something.

Now, I've dragged myself out of my cosy bed, showered and dressed. My reward was seeing 'my' squirrel at the feeder for the first time in ages. I know it's been coming in as the hazelnuts are always gone in the morning so he / she's been eating overnight. Now it was at the hazelnuts, scoffed them and jumped onto the bird feeder full of peanuts. Such a delight to watch. That made the pain of getting up well worth it.

I've brought in wood, got the stove lit, emptied the dishwasher, put more stuff into the dishwasher, filled up two bird feeders and scattered mealworms, brought a bottle of wine out of the barn and had some breakfast. Can I stop now???

There's a pile of paperwork to scan before putting outside to burn. It's been growing and annoying me all week - today is the day.

    Keep warm everyone.

Morning all, Nanuk of the north reporting in :D.
The snow stopped about 8pm yesterday but we woke to freezing fog . There is a restricted bus service running on the main road, between 10am and 6pm. There will not be a local service until they plough our road, can't see that happening soon as they are concentrating on keeping the main roads open.
The carers managed to get to our neighbour in a warrior type 4wd, so I know she's ok. I shall ring Dad later as there is no way he will get here for Sunday lunch. DD just texted that SiL is going to Liverpool to watch the football :eek:. Hope he gets there and back ok.
I wanted to put some recycling items in the bins this morning, but I can't find them ( the bins that is ). I know where I left them but they are now hidden under a 6ft snow drift .
The kitchen has been wiped down and also the cooker top. The DW has been emptied and I have made a bolognese sauce, which is in the slow cooker. I don't know if I will freeze it as we were going to have that for tea, but as there are a few limp items in the fridge, we decided to have a Spanish omelette instead. We may have the bolognese sauce tomorrow.
Creative Gal Gosh that was a scary journey.
Gers hope your knee is ok
Csarina I hope your DD gets well soon and out of hospital.
    Holly enjoy your cooking session.
    P.S. It's just started snowing again !
Stay safe and warm everyone. Sending healing vibes to the poorlies, the Sandman to the sleepless and hugs to all.

    Hello all!
We had further snow yesterday afternoon, which carried on until about 9-ish. Woken today to fog. I went out earlier with my backpack again, plus ice grips and hiking pole, for more supplies from the supermarket at the end of the road.
I've had a sore throat since yesterday afternoon, and a cold is settling in today, so I just wanted soothing things like yoghurt. I think technically you're meant to avoid dairy with a cold (something to do with it producing mucus - nice!), but I've always been more of a believer in "listening to what you body says it wants". And if yoghurt is what it wants, yoghurt shall be what it gets!

It was a bit of a hard-going walk up there though. Not at all slippy, but very deep in places, and a lot of shimmying around badly parked cars mounted up on pavements. Even when I left the supermarket at just before 10, the place was still virtually deserted. I guess most people are sensibly staying in and running off their stocks for a few days! I'm lucky that I'm within a sensible walk of a good sized supermarket.

Also took the opportunity, as I was already snow-dressed, to scrape off the car. Very dry, loose snow. But better to get to it before it gets a chance to freeze onto the car!
Because it's fun to have money!

    Afternoon all,

Csarina thanks for the update. Your daughter is very, very lucky to have got off with such minor injuries.

What a messed up day ive had. Well the hound got me up twice in the night and the other hound went walkabouts in the house at 3am, wandered into Youngests bedroom and because the door self closes couldnt get out again. She does this quite often and ive asked Youngest to barricade the door. The handles are just ball type push handles so they just push/pull to close but he forgets and sleeps through her scratching the door to get out so i have to let her out or we will have no door left.

Went shopping this morning, well tried to but the shelves were empty. We need to go out again when Grump wakes up to get the rest of it. Saw a homeless man just outside Lidl. It floored me, that could so easily have been my Prodigal. Thankfully Prodigal is neither homeless (he's staying with a mate) or hungry (if he was he would come to me cause i wont let him starve).

Got the Grandchildren overnight again. Nanny is going to have her hands full.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.
