This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

LameWolf Yesterday we put Scampi's coat, lead and collar on him then grabbed the clippers. The promise of a walk meant he tolerated his nail being clipped – just. He was very vocal but we weren't snarled at or bitten so job done
Nels I got cross at the news too, I think I irritated mr tru, I went on about it so much, lol. I know some of those people could've been carers/nurses/doctors/other-important-jobs on an essential journey but nowhere near that many! And did they think about any rescuers that would've been outside while they were in there car, even colder than them? Noooooo, they carry on as normal and expect sensible people to risk themselves rescuing them  Oh and don't forget to bring food and drink too, you can't expect people to do that for themselves
csarina OMG I had to read your post twice to make sure I read it properly. I hope she's OK, thinking of you all xx
Miss tru was umming and aaahing about going to her second job in the afternoon when her mind was made up for her – she had a message saying a few people couldn't get to work so they closed the shop, she was home by 1pm.
Scampi had a fab time jumping about in the snow, there are a few deep drifts down on the field, he leapt into one that turned out to be over a dip, and disappeared
It snowed all afternoon and was really cold because of the breeze. The road looks terrible outside the house so will be even worse going up the hill and down the lanes on the way to work, I don't think mr tru will be going in. He's been home for a day and a half already, I don't think I'm going to cope with him here for another two daysPlease send help. And wine.

Morning chums, another member of the wide-awake-club this morning, woke up around 4.a.m. and just couldn't get back to sleep for no reason apart from creaky joints and old age I think
. But I had my lap-top so I can potter around doing a jigsaw, and listen at the same time to Steve Allen on LBC.
Just looked out of the window and the road opposite is a sheet of black ice and looks very dodgy. No doubt there will be a few shunts at some point today. Mainly from cars that are going just that little bit too fast for the conditions.
Csarina I do hope you DD is OK and soon back home again, very worrying for you I expect.
Hopefully the weather will ease a bit ,looking at the forecast in my area it looks as though rain is forecast for later, and the weather temperature is supposed to rocket to a tropical 5cand rising for the following days.
Still I shan't be going anywhere just yet, although I am looking forward to a bit of fresh air
Hope everyone is safe, warm and dry, my son-in-laws young niece was stuck on the train in Lewisham,London last night for three hours and eventually the passengers were walked along the track to the station. We really don't cope with extreme weather in the UK .
Look afteryourselves chums, you are all precious to someone

Good morning all, it remains bitterly cold here, with thick snow. We don't really need to go out other than OH going to pick up the newspapers, assuming that they arrive at the corner shop. The weekly shopping can wait, we'll just manage fine with what we have. Might make more bread.
Deleted_User am thinking of you and your daughter.
Hollyharvey if you find it a struggle to raise the motivation to cook, you might like to identify something that you can bear to eat again and again and batch cook it. Boring but one cooking session and probably better for you than just snacks.
Since I have no proper plans other than visiting a friend, which I can't really do, I'll watch TV and knit today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all.
Still freezing cold here and no snow. There’s a hint of a frost and it’s 0 degrees outside. Another stay at home day I think.
My DM has had so many offers of help with shopping this week, it’s very heartening for her and me. She was fully stocked up by me last weekend as the weather warnings were already being made so she has plenty, but it’s so lovely that people are caring. Even a new never met neighbour downstairs went up to offer help. Sometimes my cynical nature gets slapped around by kindness!
The other day I fell over in the house. My long hated stupid slippers got caught in the duvet which I was putting a fresh cover on. I bashed my good knee good and proper  It’s only this morning that the pain is easing. The slippers are stupid U gg type with a solid sole which don’t bend, I often thought about changing them, now I definitely will. Tried to order from JL yesterday but the company had suspended collections at stores because of the bad weather. I’ll try again next week.
I’m still in bed with the blanket on heating me up after going to the loo. No real plans for the day again. :j
I hope everyone is snug and safe, happy Saturday to all.0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. I was another wide awake at 4.00, woken up by worries, woes and aching joints. I made myself the usual coffee and when I opened the fridge door for the milk a tub of mushrooms (balancing on some yogurts) flew out. I could hardly bend to pick them up! Is it old age or is the weather to blame?
We had a reprieve from the snow yesterday, after 3 days and 3 nights of the stuff. But, by heck, it looks icy out there. DD is working this morning and I don't like to think of her driving on icy roads. She walked to work on Tuesday in the deep snow - it's 5 miles and it took her exactly an hour. She works at a resource centre for the elderly and didn't want to let her old folks down.
I am going a bit stir crazy after being stuck in the house for four days and if the bus is still running into town I think I might venture out. We don't need anything in particular, it's just for a change of scene and to escape the rubbish Mr TA watches on the tv!! I shall wait until I can see how bad it looks underfoot as I don't want to break a leg walking to the bus stop!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for those who need them. I hope there is better news for CSARINA, such a worry. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and just eaten porridge too, as I'm working.
Now light but it started snowing last night and was still going in the early hours, we now have more laying snow than we've had all week, although the temperature started to rise yesterday afternoon the snow had started to thaw. The main road outside the front of my house was covered in snow a while ago, but cars are now moving about and it just looks wet, my problem is going to be getting from the back of our house where the garage is to that main road, not far but the cul de sac is not gritted at all, so we'll see.
Dinner last night was chicken, bacon and cheese kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had mushroom omlette and salad, lemon cheesecake and cream for dessert. Tonight we'll be having southern fried chicken, posh pizza, salad/chips/jacket/wedges.
Yesterday I didn't get the very few items that needed it ironed, I completely forgot, so I'm using the only ironed work blouse I have left this morning, later I'll be ironing so I don't get up Monday and realise I haven't done it. I did also get the food shopping done, SM was busy as the roads were clear and dry yesterday morning and we had the forecast for snow later in the day so everyone had the same idea of getting up and out for supplies. I think that was a wise decision. I changed our bed also. Hoover got shoved over the carpets.
We were going to go out this afternoon to visit DH's grandad but the weather that way is worse than here so that won't be happening, we'll stay in the warm, watching tv/pottering about.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Yesterday it snowed heavily all day, I work in a day centre for adults with learning difficulties and the manager refused to close it for the day, we had a staff member skid and write off her car on the way into work, another staff member fell and cut his head and one of the clients fell, it makes me so mad as its all about money and not about anyone's safety, Im working this weekend (no clients in at the weekend) and I know we will have no / very few customers, the roads are sheer ice and yet I am still expected to go into work
Anyway rant over ! Domestics are up to OH today and dd and her boyf, OH will do the shopping and they can all help with the cleaning of the house.
Not sure about dinner tonight OH will cook but we normally have a 'posh' dinner on a Saturday and treat ourselves to something nice.
Elona Im not sure if its your Birthday today or not ? anyway have a cake just in case xx :bdaycake:
Have good days all xx
Csarina I hope your DD is ok xx0 -
Morning All
Not much to report - still trying to clear snow here. There was quite a community spirit yesterday with folk out clearing their drives and the road. We still haven't had a snow plough along our road and of course the grit bins are empty. A couple of cars and vans tried to come down but of course they got stuck, despite folk telling them there was no chance of them getting along!
Those in the caring profession and emergency services have my utmost respect with their efforts of getting to work. All those who just thought they would beat the weather should be fined.
I hope you have had good news csarina, what a worry.
Well done Scampi, what a brave boy!
Ouch Gers, hope you're ok. Lovely to hear of everyone looking after your DM.
Stay safe today and enjoy whatever you do. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning all
Hollyharvey - thank you for starting us off
Csarina sorry to hear your news
Still plenty of snow here but the forecast is for 2 degrees so hopefully it will thaw.
We have plenty of food and the house is warm so no problems, which is just as well as we haven't see or heard from anyone.
Hope you all have a good day, keep warm and safe.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need especially Csarina and her daughter.
It's a little milder here today so I'll go and see if any of the taps are working in a sec, we must e really low on water by now especially since CHS used gallons yesterday trying to get the macerating to work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0
