Hi, we're are getting ready to be married in July next year. We've gone for a Friday which saved us about £500 compared to booking a Saturday wedding. We could have saved even more going for a week day wedding but I have a lot of family planning to come down from Scotland (we're based south-east) and didn't want them having to miss two + days of work in order to come.
So far we've got the following pretty much organised:
Venue - slightly more than we had budgeted but so pretty out decor budget is almost zero. Dress - brand new but paid for by my parents as their contribution and we got money off of the bridesmaid dress by buying on the same day Catering - my bridesmaid close aunt so slight discount given Photography and stationary - provided by a friend with a start up graphics/ web design company so minimal cost Flowers - some made from comic books, fresh provided by a friend so more mates rates Officitates Bridesmaids/men outfits - bridesmaid mentioned above, bridesmen are wearing their kilts so already owned
We've already got plans in place to create the centerpieces mostly for free and the rest of the decor will be in the form of borrowed fire pits and blankets plus flowers.
In total, we 're looking at a grand total of around £16,000. We've spent £2500 on deposits so far and have about £2500 saved. Our plan is to save £1500 every month which will smash our payment deadlines and have plenty left for the honeymoon (looking to splurge on a Disneyworld trip - if not now, when?!)

Does anyone have any tips for finding wedding card on the cheap? The quotes we've had so far are ridiculous.
  • Blimey, we're spending £2033.57 in total. Granted Dad is paying for the reception, but it would still only be £3033.57 with it maximum.
    Mtg Balance £147,000 : Savings £7,000 / £10,000

Exciting ring news for you Financialwizard :)

Not much movement for us at the moment, no news on the divorce or venue as I am still housebound at the moment :(

I ordered a couple of samples from Optimal Print, I'm very impressed! I ordered 2 samples, but had to do it it 2 orders at a cost of 72p each, if I'd done it in 1 order it would have been more expensive. Anyway, I was expecting just 2 invites but I have 10 of each design and oddly 40 envelopes! If by chance we get our venue on the date I put on the samples and we get married at 3pm we won't need to buy any invitations for the wedding as we only need 15 :rotfl:

Wedding fund has reached £500 :T

  • We literally have 7 guests and us 2, so everything is cheap as we can make it. Most expensive item's are my wedding ring and dress ... ha ha - typical!

  • We've got about 50 guests to invite but worried if this is too little to have for our reception which would hopefully be in a local hall.

My wedding dress was only £40 as it's not a standard wedding dress.
But i don't do dresses or white bridal dresses so it was a good fit for me

I've got enough money to pay for the registry office now,
i separated our wedding costs into each section / category, putting the first as top priority.

the next thing to save is £128 for the little costs such as £30 registry office booking fee , certificate, marriage notices for both of us etc.

    Hi Financialwizard

Still no movement on anything here, including me! :(

My seeds are growing, but I've decided on artificial flowers and have watched lots of how to make a bouquet videos on YouTube. :)

I've read through the mse wedding on a budget tips and have ordered some 'cards' bunting and flowers via the Amazon link there.

I keep thinking of questions to ask the venue and have written a list and keep adding to it.

Tried my dress on again and can get the zip up a little further so that's good. I keep thinking I shouldn't put it on so much but then I think I'll only be wearing it for one day so I may as well wear it as much as possible :rotfl:

Otherwise I'm feeling a bit meh and fed up with not being able to get out and about!

I see Charley's signature showing how she's getting on with her wedding saving and she's doing great, I've got a quarter of mine saved so pleased with that :T

    Catch you all soon x

I discovered that I hadn't seen Muriel's Wedding, so I watched it Nats :rotfl:

A year is plenty of time to lose a stone sensibly Financialwizard :)

The divorce will be finalised at the end of May so we will finally be able to get on and start booking things, stand by for a date! :T

I'm still at home at the moment, supposed to go back to work on Monday, I'm going to struggle but I'll have to see how I get on. I've got a hospital appointment in June to see what's going on.

Hope everyone is doing well x
