Why aren't BMWs limited to Winter tyres and 75 BHP

Then the roads wouldn't be gridlocked by arctics trying to go round a BMW stuck on a virtually flat road in 0.5cm of snow.
The combination of 500BHP, a lead right foot and ultra low profile summer tyres does not make for good progress
I tend to use the R8 when conditions are bad.0 -
My car can’t even reverse off the drive it’s that embarrassing. Is yours an AMG too?
I remember my MK4 fiesta. Tiny front wheels, it was the best in the snow wish I could have that car now.
Our daughters school closed today, in the 80’s our school only ever closed if the snow drifts were that high the caretaker couldn’t actually open the front door.
Mine only closed when the aging heating system gave up. And things were built to last back in the day.0 -

But you, and the teachers could easily walk to school. Now everyone has to travel 10 miles or more on roads gridlocked by people who can't/won't drive. So there would be no-one to babysit the pupils, who would immediately start killing each other in a remake of Battle Royale, and then the parents would sue for com-pen-say-shun. :rotfl:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You've missed something else very obvious off that list - RWD.0 -
It's not just RWD that's the issue ... it's the fact that the majority of the vehicle weight is not over the drive wheels, thus making the drive wheels more prone to slip.0

In The Olden Days pretty much every car was RWD, and we merrily drove our escorts, capris, cortinas, marinas victors and vivas in far worse conditions than this, and Winter tyres hadn't even been invented yet
(Mind you, we did drive around with bags of sand in the boot.....;))I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Well some of the pupils could walk, not sure about the teachers. Little Johnny got shot in the eye when a teacher was late but it didn’t make national news.
(I wish for his sake I was joking about Johnny who is now johnnny one eye)0 -

We also used to drive with just a little finesse. The accelerator, steering and brakes weren't computer-game binary controls.
Oh, and if we got it wrong people laughed at us because it was our own damn fault. Not the council's, not the car designer's, not the Weather Gods, but ours.0 -

Nowadays, cars pretty much drive themselves, which has enabled virtually any numpty to handle a car better than Stirling Moss in his day. However, when the driver aids simply can't drive the car for them any more due to the road conditions we get chaosJoe_Horner wrote: »Oh, and if we got it wrong people laughed at us because it was our own damn fault. There wasn't as much to hit either, most houses only had one car if any at all, and it would be in the garage or on the drive. Now the other 3 cars per household are strewn all along the roads, making them into a chicane where you have to get through without sliding even an inch.
And we had bumpers to bump into things with, and then either straighten with a hammer, or swap for a straighter one from a scrappy with a couple of bolts, not these plastic monstrosities that cost £1000 to respray if they get even a scratch.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
