Zoo refuses refund!

Hi guys,
Hopefully i can get some advice on what to do here.
Two days ago i bought 2 adult tickets to the South Lakes Safri Zoo, and payed the extra cost to feed the Lamas and Giraffes. This was a gift for a friends birthday.
Unfortunately due to the weather and work commitments we can no longer go.
I called their office today to ask how to go about a refund.
The lady on the phone stated that i “was not entitled to one” and the the tickets are valid for 1 year.
I told her that regardless of how long the tickets lasted i could no linger go and would probably never go, therefore deeming the “valid for 1 year” term un useful.
Where do i stand with this? Am i correct in thinking i am entitled to a full refund?
How do i go about challenging this in the corrct way?
Please help :wall:

Can i ask why that is please.
Just do i have a better understanding0 -
Did you by these tickets online, or by some other distance means?
If so, then Regulation 23 of The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 applies.
It lists those situations where cancellation is not an option.
I would suggest paragraph (h) of that regulation covers it:(h) the supply of accommodation, transport of goods, vehicle rental services, catering or services related to leisure activities, if the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance.0 -
I bought them online if that makes a difference?
Thanks for you help0 -
Then post #4 covers it.0

I don't understand why you and your friend can't use the tickets at a later date as a belated Birthday event. Sometimes this can work out even better than the original date. Go in the summer, when the weather is a lot warmer than it would be normally in March (and no risk of snow storms). I'm not sure I'd choose to go to a Safari/Zoo in March.
I know you said something about work commitments being a problem but can't u both arrange a day's holiday sometime this year?0 -
OP should be able to cancel under CCRs - the exemption won't apply because the contract wasn't for performance on a specific date (the period of performance relates to instances like a 7 day car hire starting the 4th march or a 2 week hotel stay beginning the 11th).
If you sell 2 tickets for the 1st april and were allowed to cancel and receive a full refund, then its possible other people might have and bought those tickets if you hadn't and depending on dates, might not have enough time to resell. However, when you have something like this - with the zoo promising 1 days performance/admittance at any time in the next year, there was never a limited allocation reserved for you so they're not exposed to the same risks. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
With terrible weather having been warned about for over a week before it hit, somebody buys tickets to go to a zoo!0

Hmm surely the 'feeding the llamas and giraffes' element must have some sort of date element, otherwise you could have loads of people turning up to feed them?0
