Sky - Could I do better?

Options
Hi,
I've been a sky customer for about 3 years, particularly because my son wants Sky Sports. Sky seem to be forever sneaking the price up and I have to call to try to haggle it back down. I wanted to check if what I'm currently paying seems OK.

We have Sky Sports (on my bill it says Box Sets with Sports), HD, multi room (2 boxes). I pay £59.60 a month which includes various discounts. I've had an email today saying the price is going up another £2 a month, so that will be £61.60 a month. I'm on an 18 month contract that has about 6 months left to run.

Just wondering if this a reasonable deal or if I could try to bring it down mid contract?

Thanks :)

Massive thread on Sky deals here:

You've got nothing to lose by asking, but there is no real incentive for Sky to reduce the price mid-contract. So reasonable price or not (and it's not really, as you'll see from the above thread) you are entirely relying on any goodwill from Sky.

You can change your package mid contract. You just can't leave mid contract. Ask to remove the sports, they'll ask why, say you need to cut costs, they will probably give you some sort of concession, they might even review the whole deal but make you take a new contract.

OP, if you can get out of your current contract, the alternative for less money and same programmes is Now TV - entertainment plus sports is about £40 a month without any deals - and Now TV are pretty good at offering deals to retain you.

It's a monthly 'pass' so can be stopped any time e.g. if your son is just watching the football, you could cancel end of May and restart in August saving £60 ish. You need a good BB speed as it is all streamed. Movies is about £10 a month as well.

I'm currently getting entertainment + movies for £9 a month (against full price of £17 a month) because I went to cancel and they offered a deal on entertainment, and I did cancel movies for a coupe of months, and they e-mailed me a new offer. They offered me sports for £20 a month for 3 months too.

You can usually pick up Now TV boxes with free passes for less than £20.

    Just binned Sky his month.
Opted for Freesat box, nowtv, amazon and Netflix (my daughters subscription) and a heavily discounted BTsport on the old sky box in the bedroom.
Loving the flexibility of nowtv and have gone from a couple of tv/broadband contracts costing circa £130 per month to just one costing £41. That doesn!!!8217;t include the costs for amazon and nowtv passes of course.
