Privately sold vehicle, new owner claims fault

  • Well you can sell a car with a blown head gasket so long as you don't claim anything about it. It is up to the buyer to find the faults. I've looked at many cars to buy where the head gasket had gone but seller had no declared so.

Please inform the rest of the group how we know our head gasket is about to expire.
It'd take too long, there are many indications of head gasket failure.

What is this "group" you speak of?
Personally the only fault I would spot in advance is a clutch wearing out.
Your limited experience is obviously a drawback.

For him to buy it without viewing it, he either didn't want to miss a great bargain, in which case he took a gamble.

Or he fully intended to claim something expensive was wrong, so he could try and scam you.

Glad you got the all clear from the CAB. Ebay would have told you the same thing in a dspute. And they would tell him he should have viewed it.

Not true given the Zafira B doesn’t have one.

They still have wanting lights on the dash though.

This could be detrimental if this is the add!

Good spot. It has a tiet gearbox, a very rare find, too.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe you wouldn't know if the head gasket was on its way out. It's a mighty coincidence it suddenly went when the buyer took receipt of it. So either you shifted a lemon or he's trying it on imo.
    .

That’s a bit unfair, it could be both things - the van only did 1600 miles in the last year so no head gasket fault may have been apparent to the seller. The van is 18 years old, low mileage, with little recent use, if the buyer has jumped in it and put it to work then there could be numerous weak links which will now break.

As others have said, its the buyers problem - ”Caviar empire, Rodney” as Del Boy would say.

Unless the OP lied in post #6 then this is a different vehicle.

Actually, I don't think it is. I've found OP's listing, but some of the photos are the same - the one of the interior seats and the interior rear. They both have different photos of the same MOT certificate. The OP's listing ended 17th feb, other listing ended 26th Feb.

OP, is the seller on this listing possibly your buyer?

And I presume this is your listing?

Actually no need to ask the OP, i can see it is his buyer from feedback left.

Which begs the question, is he trying to punt a now repaired car off to someone else, or trying to fiddle the OP?
