Are bedroom blinds really necessary?

My bedroom has those vertical blinds. The same as my living room. I really don’t like them because it makes the bedroom look like a living room and they make the room slightly darker. I really want to just get rid of them but I’m not sure what to have instead, or if I need to have anything. I do have curtains too and I’m only in the room to sleep so these blinds seem pointless but without them, the neighbours might be able to see into my bedroom during the day. Is it weird not to have blinds? There’s nothing of great interest to anyone in my bedroom but most houses seem to have blinds there. I’ve kept them this long because I thought they probably help with insulation but I’m beginning to doubt how much use they are.
What do most people use? Is there an alternative that looks nicer and doesn’t block the light? Or should I just get rid of them and leave the windows bare?

They probably do help with insulation in this weather as if both blinds and curtains are closed there is a pocket of air between them which helps keep the cold out. Can you not just pull them back flat against the wall during the day then close them at night?
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

It!!!8217;s not just the look of them ( and they really are ugly). They!!!8217;re a nightmare to clean. It takes forever going over each one and then there!!!8217;s all the hooks and chains etc.
I!!!8217;m not sure about net curtains though. That might look even worse.0 -
Does anyone know why I’m seeing a load of exclamation marks and random symbols/numbers in posts here?0

We just have curtains. If we need to change clothes or whatever in the daytime, then we close the curtains. I'm not bothered about people looking in if no one is in the room.
If I wanted more daytime privacy I'd fit net curtains or window film (as suggested above). Both are easy to clean and can look okay depending on the design chosen.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

By ‘net curtains’ do people mean like the ones from the 1980’s? Or those ‘voile’ things?0

We have jardniere nets. I don't think there's a lot of difference between nets and voiles, one just sounds posher. Easy to keep clean, wash and dry in a couple of hours on a breezy day.
Several different designs here

Like Slinky I think voiles are just posh nets. They will work. So will privacy film. Take your choice.0

We just have curtains. If someone is sad enough to want to stand and look in the window, I feel sorry for them. That said, we are at the far end of a close, with little passing foot-traffic. If we want to change our clothes, or do anything else in the bedroom we don't want on public view
we simply draw the curtains.
I loathe nets with a passion, because I can't see out through them very well.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
