Are bedroom blinds really necessary?

It's perfectly normal to just have curtains....
I've only got curtains. I will be having venetian blinds at some point, but that's my preference, not because it's "normal". In fact, curtains and blinds is overkill.
You only need something at the window as it's hard to get undressed while crouching on the floor0 -
Just curtains is fine, most houses near me just have curtains , you'd need to be a super snooper to see in. It depends where your house is and how overlooked. But as others said close curtains when dressing is all that's needed.
If you want extra privacy replace vertical blind with roller blind.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
We have day/night blinds - discovered them at our hotel on holiday in Turkey and had them installed 12 months ago as we found most blind companies in the UK offered a variant. Perfect balance of light/privacy and wouldn't be without them now...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCNoITz3Yn8
It's essentially a roller blind with two different types of fabric0 -
I don't think blinds in the bedroom are necessary - we don't have them.
I don't think it's weird not to have them.
It's personal choice.0 -
Is the insulation from these blinds likely to be significant? The windows are all double glazed but I’m wondering if removing these will mean my heating bills go up a lot. The curtains are thermal blackouts but the radiator is right below them and with the curtain creases sticking out, the heat tends to go straight up behind them instead of out into the room.0

I bought a house with them at all windows. All the neighbours had them too ( new build) . I didn't like them and removed the lot.
I only had curtains. If I wanted to get changed, I just drew the curtains.
Edit. The current house, I've had small slat Venetian ones put up in the 2 rooms that face the road. I tilt them closed at night but don't pull the curtains (so the best doesn't go behind curtains instead of in the room)Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Astonished at new houses having what I call "office blinds".
I loathe them with a passion. Rarely ever seen prior to moving. Often seen since moving here (maybe it's the higher average age group here?). I regard them as very old-fashioned and distinctly impractical. Anyway - I don't wish to be reminded of offices - I had to spend so many years earning my living in one.
My current house had them when I bought it and one of the first things I did was to get shot of them all.
What I've chosen to have are those modern white window shutters. But it's no wonder I never see them anywhere round here - as it's proven totally impossible to get them (though I'm not sure how well they'd go on the 70's 'picture windows' this house has??).
So the next best option I've been able to get is viole curtains and that's what I'm having to use as "least worst option" until I can get something more to my taste (eg I do still have one pair of muslin curtains that are okay). Ones from a different manufacturer went into shreds unfortunately. But I'm keeping my eyes open for the chance to get some more "muslins" too - as I think they look more modern/more classy.0 -
I don't think it's weird or wrong to have blinds.
That said, I've got a roller blind that I'm going to fit to my bedroom window. However, that's because where I live it doesn't go properly dark in the summer and I can't sleep. Been moaning about it for years and finally doing something.:o Plus, it's cold in winter and they will provide extra insulation here.
So, personally speaking, hooray for blinds! But if you don't like them and don't need them, ditch 'em!

Every office I've ever worked in has had vertical blinds. I would never have them at home because I don't want my home to feel like an office.
Venetian blinds are a nightmare to keep clean.
Nets/volies, some people like them, some don't, just down to personal preference.
I don't think any one thing is 'normal', just have whatever you prefer, even if your preference is nothing2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I have vertical blinds - they allow lots of light without losing privacy - my windows are very big and we are adjacent to a main road with double decker buses.
I don't think my house especially looks like an office - except for the studyI have curtains too as the blinds let in too much light and are not any kind of thermal Barrier
I wanna be in the room where it happens0
