Misery with the menopause. Any tips on dealing with flushes and night sweats?

Hi Guys,
I have been suffering from hot flushes for a couple of years now, and have been trying to manage it the herbal/natural remedy way. I was taking Black Cohosh for a year or so and it really alleviated the symptoms. However, not anymore, so on recommendation from a friend I started drinking cider vinegar(supposed to be an amazing cure all). This isn't working either. Worse still over the last couple of weeks, I have started having night sweats! I don't know which is worse, walking round with a thin sheen of perspiration on my face all day or getting up a couple of times a night to change sheets.
I know it's something millions of women suffer from so I don't get too stressed about it anymore, it's just so damn uncomfortable and I wondered if anyone could suggest something that has worked for them?
I have been to doctors and they did suggest HRT, but i am 43 and they think i may be too young as you are supposed to come off it after 6/7 years, which, they say, is usually when women start experiencing their first symptioms of the menopause.
Thanks Guys
Robyn

hi
I had the full raft of menopausal symptoms due to health needs last year. It was nothing short of debilitating, the sweating was literally vile.
The only thing I could do to get a full nights sleep was to have a fan on with a bottle of frozen water in front of it, or a wet cold tea towel draped over the front of the fan to disaperse cold air about.
I couldnt find anyting else that worked, and even this didnt work, just gave slight repite for a while.
Yu have my sympathies! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Hi Guys,
You are right, it is vile! I have thought about getting a fan, the iced water idea is fab, will try it. The problem is the other half(who has little or no understanding about what we go through lol!) He sleeps like a log, until i open a window, or kick the duvet off my side, then springs to life whinging that it's freezing. He also claims that i am lucky in the fact that I can keep myself warm, no matter how cold the weather and how few clothes I wear!
Rikki thanks for tip on sage, will try that as well.

I guess one of the good things is that I have just missed a whole month of periods, also didn't get the usual pmt(mad cow disease)! Also I mentioned that I did try taking cider vinegar in water. It hasn't helped the hot flushes but it has done wonders for my digestion, water retention. I have lost about half a stone, and feel really good.

I'm 43 and have been suffering badly for about a year now. My friend who is 60 and has tried just about everything has recently started taking Flash Fighters from Holland and Barratt and it's the first thing that has helped. I hope that I don't have to suffer until I'm 60+!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0

crushed flaxseed was administered at 40 g daily......The mean decrease in hot flash scores after flaxseed therapy was 57% (median decrease 62%). The mean reduction in daily hot flash frequency was 50% (median reduction 50%), from 7.3 hot flashes to 3.6....... This study suggests that dietary therapy decreases hot flash activity in women not taking estrogen therapy. This reduction is greater than what would be expected with placebo.
Braun Coffee Grinder Only £12.00 Buy Now A big 5kg bag of whole brown linseed costs around £6. It will keep for a couple of years in a plastic mouse proof bucket. Just grind a potful each week to keep in the fridge and add the ground flaxseed to cereal, soups stews and use in baking as a substitute for fat or eggs. It's also a useful source of dietary fibre both soluble and insuluble so drink plenty of water with it. It's converted in the body from ALA to EPA so is a useful source of omega 3. On a friend's recommendation I tried Red Clover, and although it hasn't stopped the hot flushes completely, it has helped a lot. Now I really notice if I forget to take it![0
