letter form tax credits

Just reived a latter from tax credits, basiucally asking if i should be making a joint claim. I do have a boyfriend but i rent in a houseshare and he live at home and pays board. I stay at his a few days a week (to be oinest i need to, i hate living in thus houseshare and have major issue with housemates that would make being here 7 days a week a nightmare, my mental health is suffering as a result). I've withdrawn money to give to him, but thats money i owe him from when he lent me it and he treats my debt exactly the same as his mates debt. When i;ve paid him back i will give him £20 a week to save for me, its his 30th birthday and i want to treat him but i can;t save the money myself because i have bipolar and can;t budget and will spend it unless i give it to someone else to look after for me.
Do i need to worry?
I am because i have bipolar and my paranoia is through the roof. I'm now convinced people are spying on me and i'm worried about leaving the house or staying at his anymore. The last time i felt this bad i though OAPs were government spies sent to spy on me. Maybe its not the OAPs i need to worry about.

It seems to be a standard letter being sent out.
From what I've read of your relationship you're not living together as man and wife and have nothing to worry about.
The government's logic seems to be 'ask people if they're breaking the law. Because people who are will be honest upright people who'll own up'.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Here's the link to the thread that states you're not the only one.xXMessedUpXx wrote: »Just reived a latter from tax credits, basiucally asking if i should be making a joint claim. This is the criteria used by HMRC:
https://revenuebenefits.org.uk/tax-credits/guidance/how-do-tax-credits-work/understanding-living-together/
"HMRC state in their manuals that they will use the criteria adopted by DWP for this purpose which include the following:
Living in the same household
Stability of relationship
Financial support
Dependent children
Public acknowledgement
Sexual relationship"
I would say you're not living together as man and wife (as set out above) so have little to worry about.
There is a considerable difference between mutual support / human contact and LTAMAW.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
Possibly worth pointing out that the criteria used by HMRC for Tax Credit purposes are not necessarily the same as those used by DWP to determine whether two people are a couple for benefit purposes.
That difference isn't relevant to the OP and their tax credit situation.,0
