Hello my little hot cross buns,
Just a quick chat before I need to nip down to the greenhouse to cover up my veggie plant babies.
Have enjoyed today as it's been a mixture of sitting around chatting to each other over coffee & hot cross buns & getting stuff done. Town first thing for our fresh fruit, veg & meat. Mr F spotted an enormous leg of lamb for £25 so we bought it on the strength of the amount of meals (plus stock) I'll be able to get from it. I've baked bread rolls & (with help with all the peeling & chopping) made 6 jars of brown sauce. Have also ordered a new linen basket as our current one (belonged to my Nana) will soon be walking to the wheelie bin & throwing itself in, it is so raggy. It was more expensive than I'd envisaged paying, but if it lasts even a quarter as long as the old one (circa 1933!), I will defo think I've had my money's worth. Also ordered an item for the presents bag as had 15% off.
Have topped up the bird bath as they'd splashed out all their water again & did a little bit of watering.
Anyway, I must go & put those plants to bed now, then decide between finishing my book, which I'm really enjoying, & piano practice, which I will enjoy once I get started on it.

Sounds like a nice balanced day Foxgloves. I'm a bit worried about the forthcoming overnight frosts, panicked and brought the greenhouse seedlings back in the house - have you done the same or just covered them? Our dining room looks like a garden centre! I might get some hot cross buns tomorrow. I don't like the sound of the marmite ones, I did see the advert for the chilli and cheese ones from A*di and did wonder for a second if they would be worth a go. But I think I'll go original or maybe chocolate5

Yes, the frosts & cold temperatures are a worry, @scandimore, but certainly this can happen in April. I have all my seedlings & young plants in the greenhouse atm. They are all covered with individual bottle cloches with the tops back on, plus at around 5 or 6pm, I go out & cover the whole lot with a sheet..... I fold it in half to make a double layer when it is really cold. I intend to see if I've got enough bubble wrap in my wrappings stash to cover everything else in there. If not, I know I have some very big polythene bags which will do a similar job & can be left on in the day if necessary. I also intend to move my sweet peas (still in pots) back into the greenhouse on Sunday evening just for the frosts forecast on Mon/Tues. Are you in the North? We are Midlands (northerly end) & fairly rural so often a bit of a frost pocket.

Thanks Foxgloves, we're still quite new to this garden lark so we do spend time wondering what is best to do. Husband has a bit of a liking for fizzy pop so we have loads of bottles saved but it was his job to make the cloches and he hasn't had chance yet. We are indeed in the north, the lake district to be precise but on the coast so to be fair it doesn't often get very cold, I think we are down to 1 degree overnight this week. I'll have a further look in the greenhouse and see what can be done. We have recently taken on an allotment (we always bite off more than we can chew!) so have a lot more seedlings than usual. Thanks for the advice!5

I've just caught up with the last few days conversation on here and I think that possibly a cheese and marmite hot cross bun might be ok but it reminded me of a trip to a fancy fudge shop in a fancy seaside town in peak of spendy years. You know the sort of shop- very expensive and very tempting! I chose a nice big box to fill with fudge and added a few chunks of the "special fudge of the day" marmite flavour. It was truly, truly vile - just wrong. Luckily it was easy to recognise and therefore avoid so after the first horrific taste the rest went in the bin. Sorry about the food waste but I beg forgiveness on the basis that marmite fudge could not be used in any guise.7

Oh my sainted aunt, @Blackcats, marmite fudge sounds completely revolting. I am therefore sanctioning your binning of said vileness as acceptable food waste!
Same applies to the two jars of home made pickled chillies I have composted this morning! Mr F likes them but won't get through all those. I tried one & needed a whole pint of iced water afterwards! Very yuk.

Hello Easter bunnies,
Busy morning in the kitchen. Baked a cake & malteser cookies and made some apricot & rosemary stuffing for tomorrow. Washed a big load of towels & household stuff, which all dried outside on the whirlygig for free & Mr went off to the C**p to make use of a voucher.... which he did, but forgot to buy the thing he actually went for. Haha, told him it's male menopause!
Have had a good tidy up, watered the trays of plants I potted on & sorted out the pantry to make room for the jars of brown sauce we made yesterday. Checked online banking to see if my £25 survey cash-out has arrived yet - Nope! Sowed some more cress on kitchen windowsill, did some decluttering & ate lots of mini-eggs.
Easter tree fairy lights looking pretty in front window, stove lit, also candles. Intend to finish bedspread square (it will be the 77th out of 144) & probably watch a bit more 'Deutschland 89'.
Stay cosy,
