E on Heatwise to E10 meter nightmare!

Options
We are a 3 bedroom semi house with Electricity only, no gas. We have storage heaters. Last year we were told by E on that we could no longer stop on the Heatwise meter (8 hours cheaper electricity spaced out over the day and night) we have had in for years and told we would have to change to either an E7 or E10 meter instead. We opted for the E10 after a long phone call ( over 2 hours at our expense) asking if this was gonna increase our bills and for the different tariffs. We were advised it would be £30 a year more. Also after this they recommended that we put our monthly direct debit down by £50 a month.

The situation we are in now is we are £508 owing to them as the tariff they put is on is higher per KWHan the previous tarrif. We have phoned E on and they told us we were mis advised and we should of been told it would be £30 a month more not a year. Our quarter bill from Feb to Nov 2018 was £958!!! With the upped payments of £150 a month we made but still owe the £508. So our bills have increased by approx £340 over the year.

Can anyone advice me of any help with E10 tarrifs that are cheaper? It is very difficult to compare all the energy companies on E10.

Thanks, a very fustrated Sian xx

The only way you are going to find the prices is by contacting each supplier and asking.
    https://economy10.com/list-of-suppliers/#
If you look at the list some of those suppliers will apply their E7 prices to E10 meters so will be easy to find an annual price from the comparison sites.

If you have it in writing that they mis informed you then raise a complaint, they may make a goodwill payment.

But surely they gave you a kWh and daily charge price when you originally signed up to the new tariff.
  • Thk you for your reply anfd help. I have been phoning round different companies so the list will help. We were on the phone over 2 hours with E on trying to get the tariffs from them so we could work out how much the change would be. We have raused a complaint with them and they offered us £108 but I don't see why we should pay out over £300 a year more as a result of them wanting us to change the meter. They should move us to a like for like tariff. I could understand If it was a yearly price ris that we had been forwarded about.

Hiya Sian2769 and welcome to the forum.

  • Thank you, I will email you. If there is a special department for these meters why didn't E on themselves pass us onto them when we phoned up in March? Everytime we phone up we find it very difficult to get answers from them. Which has resulted in the situation we are in now.

We are having a call tonight from E on to go through an impartial department to have our issues looked at. We have worked out after this this month we will owe £700 after paying our direct debit of £150. The tarrif price per KWH and standing charge we are now on is a lot higher than what we were on on heatwise. I was looking on the E on website and the E10 pre payment tarrif is cheaper than what we are paying and would of saved us quite a bit. Wasn't offered this though???

    Thks Sian xx

    Thank you,

It's good that you've got a call back arranged

Pre-payment prices would only be available for pre-payment meters, but this is what you can discuss.

I'm here to help if you would still like me to take your details.

Well, we got our call back today from E on. And it just gets worse! I am so fed up with it. Spoke to someone who is supposed to be inpartial to find out they work for E on????? Told that we were told wrong again and the £108 offered a couple of days ago is now £54!! E on still don't want to agree they were at fault over the new meter fitting and lack of information over the tarriff we would be stuck with. Now case open with the Energy ombudsmen.

To make it worse, we have been told we cannot switch to another provider unless we clear and pay the total as E on will block it. So we are stuck in this mess with high bills!! I cannot state enough what a rip off E on are! We have been with them for 19 years to be treated like this. I will be making sure I warn friends and family to stay well clear in the future.

Update - The situation is in the hands of the energy ombudsman now so await the outcome. We are now in the process of switching our electric to Scottish power on a 1 year fixed tariff deal. Anyone that is with Eon at the moment on an E10 meter i advise you to switch now. You will be on the Eon E10 variable tariff that is a lot more expensive and the price could go up if they decide to hike up prices. I have worked out that if had switched to Scottish Power in May 2017 we would have saved £323 on our usage up to todays meter readings. Eon are just a massive rip off company, please do not stay with them.

    Thanks Sian
  • Hi Sian

I have just added a thread we have just moved into a house and received a bill for 766.94 from end of Jan to 19th March!!! We are with EDF Eco 20/20 with electric only, we have the heating on 4 hours a day as we work fulltime except weekends. We have eco electric heaters upstairs that get to a temp and auto switch off and 5 normal radiators downstairs I am speaking to the complicated team we need to understand what is using the electric. We are new to living with just electric however ensured that our timers are setup, bought energy efficient washers/driers and utilize within the cheaper time periods. If you can share the tariffs you have gone too it would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Emma
