Your cheque is probably stuck in a backlog or lost as a result of the postal strikes.
    This is exactly why I think B&B are so inept. Okay, I admit they are not responsible for the fact that we had a postal dispute but it wasn't exactly sprung upon us, was it? They had plenty of time to think it through and take, or make, necessary plans to avoid any disruption to their customers and ultimately, their business. Did they at any time suggest taking the opening cheque to the nearest branch of B&B? Sorry but I am losing patience with these 'bright young things' who have just left university or further education, and cannot manage a p*** up in a brewery. Frustrated sad old git? Perhaps I am, but just read this email from Boden to its customers re the postal dispute and what steps they were taking to avoid disruption to their business;
    “Strike? What strike?
My father was in the army and drummed into me to always 'be prepared'.
So when faced with the minor inconvenience of a national postal strike, we already know what to do. Rather than turn the lights out, bar the doors and take the telephones off the hook, we just turn to our courier network and carry on as normal (the finance department might grumble a bit, but needs must and all that).
Until the Royal Mail kiss and make up, we'll be using Parcelnet or Parcelforce, so unless you live somewhere really really obscure and remote, all orders will be delivered as normal within 4-6 days.

Although I received my welcome pack good and early, I had a wait quite a long time for B&B to find my deposit cheque (sent before the first of the recent postal strikes). I did email them to ask whether it had been received and not processed, whether I should be thinking of cancelling it and transferring by DD instead, and indeed whether that would screw up the system as I had originally elected to do the initial deposit by cheque. I received a generic email telling me "how to send a deposit cheque" which just showed that they hadn't even read my query. I sent another 2 emails, insisting on a relevent reply, and it was about a week before they responded, having then located my cheque. Now it's all set up and working it's fine, but what a palaver! Victims of their own popularity, clearly.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

  • Posted a cheque to B&b for £2000 using Royal Mails Special Delivery on the 11/10 to fund my new eSavings account.

They got it and signed for it on the 12/10.

The £2000 came out of my A&L account on the 16/10 and has not shown up in my B&b account.

Despite a phone call every day since the 16/10 the money is still missing.

I have had to order a copy of the cheque from A&L at a cost of £5, and then when i get that, post it on to B&b.

They have said that when the money shows up the will pay up the interest that it would have earn't

As soon as this is sorted im closing the account and going back to Icesave.
  • Cheque sent on the 3rd and showing (but not clear) today, 20 days!
  • I also opened both Icesave and B & B eSaver with no problems. In fact the accounts are virtually identical in their set up. My only concern is that I can log onto the eSaver by merely entering my user ID and password. There are no further security questions ie selected digits from memorable information, which is the norm with Icesave and other internet accounts. I am still awaiting a response from B & B on this issue (no reply to telephone or email) and I will not be depositing any significant funds until this matter is resolved/explained! Can everyone who has managed to open the eSaver log onto their account by just entering their user ID and password?

Both Ice Save aned B&B's internet accounts are operated by Newcastle Building Society - Thats why they are so similar.

My Mother tried opening an account with B&B (site recommendation) and has suffered the worst customer service ever. She is now asking for her deposit back and will look elsewhere.

Wife has managed to open an account, but it does seem to be a trial by fire. Just hope it's worth it in the end!

Hi, set up this account over a month ago. B&B cashed my cheque in mid October but I'm still waiting for the welcome pack. I've emailed five times now asking for replacement details by post. Their response is to keep asking me to phone them. I don't want to be put on hold for ages on a 20p per minute 0845 number. This account just doesnt seem worth the hassle.
