  • Hi,
Everything worked well for me including initial DD payment.
For me BB and Ice have been the quickest to set up.
All welcome packs (Letter and info leaflets seem to be the same)

  • I also opened both Icesave and B & B eSaver with no problems. In fact the accounts are virtually identical in their set up. My only concern is that I can log onto the eSaver by merely entering my user ID and password. There are no further security questions ie selected digits from memorable information, which is the norm with Icesave and other internet accounts. I am still awaiting a response from B & B on this issue (no reply to telephone or email) and I will not be depositing any significant funds until this matter is resolved/explained! Can everyone who has managed to open the eSaver log onto their account by just entering their user ID and password?
  • Hi,

no problems with B&B account set up, and online DD worked ok, havn't tried taking money out yet, as no need to.

Suppose I should try a small transfer just incase there are problems.

Norman the doorman, yes, just tried a log on, and only asked for user ID and password, not asked for any of the three security questions provide at setup.
  • Frugalmacdgal - Many thanks, at least I know it's not only my account that can be accessed with just the user ID and password. I'll await B & B views on this security issue!

You are right. You need to input a lot more info within Icesave.
I suppose the thing to check is if you can amend your linked account. If you can't then that's pretty safe.
  • Hi,

maybe that's where the security questions come in, when you try to change things from original setup.

I've since had a request for a cheque to be sent from my nominated account within 14 days or my BB esavings account would be closed!

That cheque was sent on the 3rd of October but nothing has come of it, it's not in the BB account and it's not been closed, so who knows.
Your cheque is probably stuck in a backlog or lost as a result of the postal strikes. I'm still waiting to receive a couple of things that were posted to me around that time.

To those who are discussing the security aspects, even if someone discovers your userid and password they can only transfer the money to your nominated bank account. It's not like they could transfer it into their own account.

You say that but it's got me a little curious now.
I've just logged in. First thing you see is your account with your name.

You have an option to print a form to change your linked account, sign it and send it back by freepost to B&B.
Now to date B&B have never seen my signature so have no way of checking I am me.

This form relies purely on someone within B&B checking that the new sort code and account number belongs to someone of my name. Can we trust they would do that? Would you want to take that risk?

edit: just checked Icesave. Couldn't see any way of changing linked account. I find that more reassuring.

Icesave is exactly the same you print a form to change linked account. Its under personal details then nominated account. As I said before Icesave and B&B run on the same platform.

Thank you Nigel. I didn't see that.
    At least Icesave clearly say:
For security, we may contact you or your bank / building society for further information when making this change to your nominated account.

I don't think B&B mentioned that but I only glanced.

    I don't like the word may.

At least Icesave insist on you inputting more memorable data. Why not B&B if same platform?
    Enough B&B-bashing from me now.
