Car hire advice for Paphos

We are going on our first holiday for many years to see family in Cyprus. I booked a car, but then discovered that we would need a credit card when we got there. We don't have one, and credit card options on the Isle of Man are very limited. We don't particularly want one anyway. I cancelled the booking.

Does anyone know of any reliable, honest, car hire firms in Paphos where we could hire a car using just a debit card?

They may be reliable and honest, but what about you? What recourse do they have if you damage their car unless you buy their excess waiver insurance?
So the issue you may have is the car being more expensive than booking with a CC and having your own standalone policy., as they may insist that you buy their full coverage insurance.
The local Independents might not have an issue with you not having a credit card, but they will like cost more than the money saving options and won't have an airport to pick up and drop off at the airport.
Either way, give Petsas at the airport a call. They are more likely to be able to be flexible and also allow their cars to be driven in Northern Cyprus should you be so inclined.

2 local agents that are recommended are

    http://www.easyrentacarltd.com/web/
Not associated to the 'easyjet' group in any way

    Also Savvas Rentals

There was a discussion on here a while back interestingly entitled <<Cyprus Car Hire - No Credit Card>>

    Where are you staying?

I'll have a look at those later.

We're staying at the Aphrodite Sands Hotel in Mandria. We last went there 18 years ago, when it was still a little village. Apparently it's become quite a popular holiday destination. DH is half-Cypriot, so we're going to see his mum's family.

Well, shame on you for not going for 18 years :D;):D

Knowing Cypriots, I suspect that you would get a much better deal if your DH telephoned and spoke (preferably in Greek) to the two folks mentioned in my previous post.
They often seem to have a better pricing structure to 'one of their own'!! ;)

Sadly his mum never spoke to him in Greek so he never learned it. However he could maybe ask one of his cousins to have a word on his behalf. That's a good idea.

It is a shame we haven't been back for 18 years, but it's only this year that we've been able to afford a holiday.

Why? We haven't been able to afford a holiday before now. In fact this is the first holiday we've been able to afford since we had our first child 21 years ago. The last time we went my MIL paid for us so she could meet up with us there - she lived in South Africa.

Don't concern yourself. Perhaps just building up a post count.

That was my thought - sarashaw posted another random message somewhere.
