Being messed around by O2 + credit checks

I recently took out a SIM only deal with O2. I tried several times to port over my old number from 3 but they haven't been able to do it. They've told me because my current number used to be with O2 every time they try to transfer it over it creates a glich. My first question is - surely people bring back numbers to their old providers all the time?
While this has been going on, I've had a look online and seen that Mobiles.co.uk have a much cheaper deal (although with O2 again) and am tempted to just cancel my contract and go with them. The only thing is I'm looking to buy a house later this year - will this many credit checks in a short space of time affect my rating? Also when I looked up reviews for Mobiles.co.uk there were a few people complaining they randomly failed credit checks with the site for no good reason.

1) It won't affect your credi file, provided
2) You pay for the remainder of the contract anyway - a complete waste and not the brightest thing to do.
3) Mobiles.co and other CPW clones' customers sometimes fail their checks (which aren't actually credit checks) before the particular network is even aware of the application.0
