If you don't need something then you don't have it simple as that.

But I will say voice and home automation is something that will get better and better over time and will not be a passing fad.

I only use Siri to set alarms on my phone but enjoy using it on the Homepod. There is something to be said for having unlimited access to music in the cloud from a single good sounding speaker. Not having CD's and music system keeps things decluttered for me.

Will soon purchase a smart plug to see how good the home automation thing works.

... then go into the lounge and turn on the TV (it does have a remote control though!)

Nothing, but why use them when you don't need to?
I'm surprised you use a remote for your TV and a timer for your heating. ;)
Asking the HiFi to play an album, is a lot quicker than digging out the LP/CD, opening it all up, placing it in the HiFi etc.
I'm always amused by the way some older people play on the technophobic old codger character as if it's some badge of honour.:)
I appreciate not everyone wants one and I am not trying to convince anyone to buy one, each to their own. So enjoy your choice of gadget and long may they serve you.
