Because 99% of drivers aren't interested in track days etc. And if speeding is as dangerous as we're told it is, it amazes me why technology hasn't been used to prevent it.

    Because speeding isnt dangerous.

    Inappropriate speed is dangerous.

Excess speed for the conditions is dangerous. 30mph on a motorway in thick fog is potentially dangerous due to the restricted visibility, even though it's less than half the speed limit. 150mph on a quiet motorway in good visibility is not inherently dangerous.

The Germans are very safety conscious, as we all know. That's why they have a blanket maximum speed limit on their autobahns of ... oh, they don't. Around a third have no speed limit at all, I could take my car there and do all 161mph it is designed for (doesn't even have the silly 155mph limiter some cars do)

A 70mph limiter, like my van has, doesn't stop me going 50mph over the limit on the streets of Bristol. It can leave me stranded if someone I'm overtaking speeds up (yes this has happened, and it's incredibly dangerous - I eased back and pulled in behind them, then they slowed down to 40mph again, which they maintained through the 30mph limit in the next village). I'm sure you wouldn't speed up when someone overtakes you, but unfortunately there are enough idiots that do (and they flash lights, honk horn etc as well).

It's about personal responsibilty. You seem to dislike having to take responsibility for your actions and want car manufacturers to do it for you.

    Yes, in Japan.

Yes, I know, poster should have said "Cars in Japan are limited to 112MPH" not "Japanese cars"

Japanese cars are all limited to 112mph.

That's as may be, but this car probably a Nissan GT-R (as suggested by Warwick) knew, through the GPS that it was on a track and so lifted the limits.
