I use my laptop on my lap, :rotfl: rather than on a desk and have realised after getting a new one how hot it is!! i'm worried about it overheating so im wondering if anyone has any suggestions of these things..
a laptop stand or these fan cooling pads or something else that might be on the market?
are the stands comfy on your knee?

laptops need good air circulation otherwise they will get hot and that can considerably shorten the life of componants within it. Also being on the sofa or on clothes will increase the chances the fans and cooling channels getting clogged up with fluff & hair compounding the problem. Fan assisted cooling pads are good but they normally power from the usb so can eat battery power, ok if plugged inNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Thats great thanks for info wakandem i'll look out for something today.
The laptop is less than a week old and was red hot last night and just before switching off i noticed that the right mouse button wasnt working unless the fan was on!! and this morning as soon as it was turned on some keys weren't but they are now.. will this be heat or have i got a dodgy laptop again
this ones a replacement for an 8mth old one.. i cant face going back to the shop!0 -
I've got an Ikea "Dave" laptop table. Which is great.
It is really stable (good for me as I am notoriously clumsy). Easy to carry it about the house when I change chairs/rooms and am on the laptop - I never trip over the legs even when carrying the whole thing upstairs (and I am 5'1").
And when I sit on a chair and pull the table towards me, the legs go under most chairs/sofas so it ends up like a laptray but more comfy.
Also, can put a coffee on my Dave.

In buying the table, I know I did the right thing as it means my laptop is available all the time without me having to pick up a tray and put it down on the floor/wherever every time I want to move (coffee, wee, cig, food)
I also have the laptop alongside my bed. Because of the placement of the table support leg it means the table acts like a bit of an "over the bed" table0 -
'Dave' Laptop table
Looks great! Definately hits the spot and gone straight onto my wish List!
My biggest wish though is that Ikea would start delivering nationally. Our nearest store is 130 miles away!!.......They once threatened to built an outlet in Devon, but nothing came of it. Many large businesses don't seem to expand past Bristol Perhaps they think the roads run out down ere , but can assure you they don't me handsomes!........Oooo Rrrrr! Now where did I park me tractor'rrr?!!!!
 ..........No way round it!.........Don't know anyone who lives near an outlet.........SOooooo disappointed!
Will just have to soldier on with household lap tray!!!
Sure one day I'll step on my lappie 'cos have to put it on the floor to answer phone, meet sudden demands of teenager etc., etc., etc......Hey, Ho! :embarasseBe kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A0 -

it is difficult to say really. I doubt being only a week old the heat would have caused any problem yet. The best thing is to see if it is ok when cool. The heat from a laptop is similar to heat given off by a 40 - 60 watt light bulb so will get quite hot if cooling is not efficient. If you continue to get problems and you are sure the envirionment hasn't been the cause then you may have to go back to the shopNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -

Wow!! that looks perfect! thank you. Another reason i NEED to go to ikea :rotfl: I've got tons to get there now but didnt even think of looking there for such as this - thanks!
The keys on my laptop seem better today and the button is working but its stil very hot so i'll see how it goes over the weekend then go back to the sho again  I haven't finished writing my complaint letter off the first laptop fault and the bad service that followed.. i really dont want to see the shop again.0 -
I use a cheap plastic bread/cutting board, big enough to allow use of a mouse, on my lap with the laptop placed on that.
Seems to work well and no overheating issues and you can pick one up for a couple of pounds.0 -
I want it just cos it's called Dave!!
Makes a change from the usual names Ikea think up for their stuff, like 'kilnge' and 'snokersharsenfaresnklag' etcetc
Did they run out of names?Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0 -
Any laptop cooling pads out there that are smallish? My laptop only has an 11.1'' screen.Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

My laptop had cooling problems and was regularly crashing so i put two thick books at the left and right hand sides living a big gap of air and its been fine ever since.
Completely forget that the books are there as well just raised it a inch or two off the desk.0
