This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Jeepers it's freezing this morning, I woke up because of leg cramp (always fun) and the tip of my nose was frozen. I have come downstairs and put the heating on. The dogs were let out for a very quick run round the garden and now the back door is firmly shut against the cold and wind.
I had shopping delivered last night and Steve performed amazing tetris skills to get it all in the fridge and freezers. I want to eat more fruit and veg but it takes up so much room there is little space for much else. Hopefully it will all be eaten and enjoyed.
I put a lump of pork shoulder in the slow cooker last night with some barbeque sauce so the kitchen smells lovely this morning. Lilly has asked for a couple of her friends to stay tonight which is absolutely fine. I will make some wedges and salad to go with the pork so that will easily feed us all.
After my mad housework blitz yesterday, there is little to do today. The washing is all up to date as well so at least the machine is free for the girls to do theirs. I will be settling down with my knitting and seeing if there is anything worth watching on the telly.
Hoping Holly is doing ok, I miss her posts.
Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care and stay warm xx0 -
Morning DUMPLING and all to follow. Yes I too miss Holly's early morning posts and hope all is as well as it can be for her.
I haven't put the heating on yet as it still feels quite warm from yesterday, when the ch was on all day. I am expecting the direct debit nearly doubling after this long, cold winter - and more to come - the 5 day forecast has us down for snow all day Tuesday! What fun!
No fixed plans for today but I want to pop in town at some point. My plans of eating from the freezer will be wavering today as my new Sparks offers with M & S include 20% off fish. I love their fish and like to take advantage when I have this offer is on my card!
There is a pile of ironing hidden in the wardrobe so I suppose that better come out this w/e. Some of it has been in there since last w/e!
I think lunch will be omelettes as I have an abundance of eggs. Probably bacon and mushroom. No idea what we are having tonight but I might get some chicken breasts out and do Smothered Chicken with some wedges and salad.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who want them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
dumpling - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, cold, clear and very frosty.
Hoping HH is at least in the best place receiving the best care x
DH and myself are enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I've just showered and dressed.
Dinner last night was HM lasgana, chips/salad, coleslaw/pasta salad, I decided to make an extra smaller one that I could leave in the fridge for the boys' to have as their main meal tomorrow as DH and I will be going out at lunchtime but not getting back until the evening and we will have already eaten.
Yesterday I did get some jobs done, the ironing did all get done, the dirty washing basket did get emptied. I'm going to go into town this morning first thing to visit the building society, then home and I'll be prepping the apples and pears that haven't been eaten and will go to waste if left much longer, they will become apple and pear crumble and some will go into the freezer for another meal. I may also make a victoria sponge cake.
This afternoon we'll be visiting the outlaws and my parents, then home to watch the rugby, whilst eating dinner and having a glass of chilled vino.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning all
Thanks for starting us off dumpling
Thinking about Hollyharvey, hope that she is ok
Very cold here this morning, haven't been out but I can see ice on the bird bath. Forecast says it will -2 today but as low as -5 later in the week. Don't think we will be going out.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who sleeps with the window open in this sub zero temperature....Grump says it's the only way he can sleep in our bedroom since we had cavity wall insulation as the room is too stuffy.
We aren't sleeping together well either. We are both used to having a double bed to ourselves.
Youngest has bought his girlfriend back to stay...remember in the 70s when we wore hotpants? Well yes she was wearing hotpants and fishnet tights. Has to be tights cause the hotpants are short enough to be knickers....goes well with the Doc Martin's LOL. She's young and can get away with it...Bet she's cold going outside though.
Now I've put my claws back in...shopping today. Desperate for decent coffee. I'm usually a Gold Blend woman but Grump moans about the shopping bill so tried something cheaper last week...it's vile.
Thinking of our dear friend Holly hope she's back with us soon...must admit the way the authorities have treated her I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing the right think supporting Prodigal going to the doctors. Will his life ever be his own?
Childcare sorted for Monday. The Blonde One couldn't really have time off as she's only been back at work a few weeks and its a new job. It wouldn't look good. As luck has it, Son in Law is working nights next week so he's having Diva till I'm back home. It's worked out well after all.
Picking up Grumps CBD oil later for pain relief. Reviews aren't good but we live in hope.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good Morning Everyone
Looks like it could be a nice day, I've stripped the bed and will hang it out shortly along with another load I did last night.
A few of us from work went for a meal and a sing-a-long Calamity Jane screening last night, I laughed from start to finish. I ordered a vegetable Bhoona for my meal and got a vegetable burger, not a good start but they were very apologetic and didn't charge for the meal. The film was eventful, the woman operating the words couldn't use the computer and it was on a screen that was too small but we sang along to the bits we knew. A really enjoyable night and all for £3!
Boxercise this morning then I must do some shopping, the fridge is quite bare. Apart from that nothing much planned, DS1 may come over, we'll see.
Thinking of you Holly.
Have a good weekend all, take care. XX0 -
Morning all. It's fine and dry here, but I know it will be cold.
Yesterday was mainly taken up with a funeral, and i was out last night to visit a friend along the road.
There's a family birthday today, so we'll be out for our evening meal tonight with DD and a few others,at a local pub which is well spoken of, so I'm looking forward to that. This morning I think I'll tidy the garden. I've been making various excuses not to do it, but it really needs it. So we'll get out there in our old coats, and tidy up a bit.
The birthday celebrations continue tomorrow with a lunch out somewhere on the Quayside in Newcastle, with Ds and others. It was difficult to get everyone together, hence two meals out. There are some nice eating places there. Don't suppose much else will get done tomorrow!!
Dumpling, things sound a bit more settled in your life, hope it continues.
Healing thoughts go to the sick and worried.
Take care folks, whatever you are doing today.0 -
Morning everyone,
Gosh it’s cold this morning, nice though with the sun out and the grass all sparkly with frost.
DOH has just been out to top up the bird feeders and before he was back in they were queuing up to take a turn, we do love watching them all and get good variety of birds. My personal favourite is the little wren, they don’t come to the feeders but if you watch carefully you can see them moving around the bottom of the hedges.
Not loads planned for today, housework all up to date :j so think time will be spent reading my book, I will get over to see Lulu later and maybe have a little wander around the track.
Tea will be something simple like pizza or baked potato, I did make a tea loaf yesterday so there is something sweet in the cake tin plus there was an offer on GB chocolate and it would have been rude not to
Thinking about Holly and hoping she is doing ok, hugs to all poorlies or those with worries.
Have a good Saturday folks x0 -
Good Morning chums a very frosty morning here at the moment Just about to pop round and see my DGS Jack as its his 18th birthday today bless him He has to go to work later but his boss has given him a short shift today as its his birthday and he only has from 11 -2 to work :0 I have written him a cheque to go into his car driving lessons which he wants to start. He is a lovely lad and very caring and every likes our 'gentle Jack' Just started going out with a pretty young lass called Georgia, although he is sensible and says they enjoy each others company, but he doesn't want to get serious as he will be off to Uni in September. I can hardly believe where the time has gone it seems only a few years ago he was toddling around in his babygro's with his year younger brother henry trailing behind him. He is a good hearted young man who is always willing to help anyone and frequently does.just to see his smile is enough to cheer anyone up, he has a grin the size of Texas
:):) I don't think I have ever seen him lose his temper he is a very laid back young man.(can you tell what a proud Granny I am
)
Tonight he is going out with his pals but is sensible and never over does it as he is always the one who makes sure his mates all get home safely.
Right time to get a wriggle on as I have lots to do today,I have to make some sausage rolls to take with me to the charity quiz night tonight as my contribution to the nibbles. We are having a small party for Jack tomorrow as a surprise for him.DD has left the cake at my house
Hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm and dry

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Its bright and sunny but OH says its very brrrrrr out, still freezing so unless it eases up we will not be going walkies today. I am not looking forward to next week, its going to be nasty by all accounts, we are forecast snow Tuesday into Wednesday, so I am glad I went to Aldi shopping. We can manage for about 10 days if we have to. I have filled the coal bucket and also got the stove top kettle out, they are saying that rural areas may get power cuts. I can use it on the fire for hot water if I have to. I do have a camping gas ring, but I need to check its ok before we try and use it.
Not sure whats for supper tonight, will do a freezer dip and see what I can find.
I hope and pray that HollyH is ok and we hear from her sooner rather then later.0
