What concerns me is that I suspect many beauty salons and hairdressers etc. don't have any appropriate cover at all. What happens when it goes horribly wrong?

They (whether business, partnership, sole trader etc) would be liable and (when sole trader at least) would be putting their personal assets, income, savings etc at risk.

Well even with the spurious figures you still risk loosing if on the balance of probabilities she can persuade a judge your treatment was the cause. Time line and remedial works may well work out favourably for her.
A court would be looking at the terms and implied terms and unless you have any terms or disclaimers in your defence you could very well find yourself on the loosing team.
Much of a successful claim and/or defense is down the wording.

To that end you better pay the ccj promptly to make sure it doesn't stay on your credit file. As if you then involve your insurers I have no doubt they will drag their feet beyond the 30 days at best (so even if they eventually pay the judgement you will still have the ccj marker and potentially enforcement coats) and refuse to cover it at worst as you breached the terms by not involving them.

Any how I think even of successful the judgement will be for a much lower sum due to the limits on loss of earnings expenses.

£38.50!!!! What company is that? I pay almost £700 to AXA.

My wife pay's around £50pa for her coverage, which covers a huge range of activities. It seems to be about the going rate for beauty/therapy related policies.
