I've had/got accounts with: Halifax, Co-op, Yorks bank, TSB & Llyods amongst others.

Hate(d) every single one of them compared to the layout & ease of use with First Direct.

Not sure why the username telling you its incorrect would be a problem - the worst thing a hacker could do without your mobile phone would be transfer funds to an existing payee on your account.

If they had my phone they'd still need:

Phone PIN, FD app password, FD web password, FD security answer... not worried at all.

    My login screen says:

    Passnumber
Enter these digits from your 6-digit passnumber

    What does yous say?

You also have the option to change your passnumber but it states that it must be 6 digits long.

    That's a very good point!!
I've just looked and it does indeed say the passnumber is 6 digits - which might go a long way to explaining why I always seem to be asked for one of the "first six digits"!
My apologies - I could have sworn I gave them a nine digit number at one point in the past but I've probably mis-remembered that

METRO BANK have come along way since launch as they're site is pretty friendly.
Metro Bank's online banking is awful, IMO (I'm also a web developer).

If you tab through drop-down boxes and enter values with the keyboard instead of the mouse, it gives an error on submission (e.g. entering your security number).

It lets you enter illegal characters (which include '&') in payee names, forces you through SMS then debit card authentication, then errors out without telling you why. Same if you set a payment (or standing order) for a weekend or bank holiday - no reason, just a generic error after laborious authentication. Means you have to change the standing order date manually after the first payment, if the first payment date is on a weekend.

Plus the transaction details are all very inconsistent. You see the reference number for Faster Payments, but not BACS payments. But on the statements, the reverse is true. And on the app, you sometimes cannot even see the full payee name on BACS payments as it includes some numeric prefix (which isn't on the website or paper statements).

Well, it may have changed since I first used online banking, but as I said previously the passnumber was issued to me by Nationwide, it wasn't something that I provided to them.

Strictly, it's not a bank, but I really like Nationwide's internet banking. You only need to faff round with a card reader the first time you send money to a new payee, and it's a standard card reader, so you can borrow one quite easily if you need to.

Downside of Nationwide is that they require you to setup payments separately on each account. Tesco shares payment details across all your accounts which makes it much easier
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

That is annoying, but it's the same with many other banks too. I confirm it's the same with Lloyds, Halifax, and TSB.
