OK, I tried to load spybot on mum's lappie (she has no spyware, just running Norton. )
As it finished installing, everything completely froze and wouldn't even shutdown, so i've brought it home to ask you guys for help. Managed to get it restarted and tried to run spybot, but it keeps saying the engine will start in (counts down) so many seconds then a message pops up - 'the exception unknown software exception (OxOeedfade) occurred in the application at location Ox77e6d756.'
Does anyone have a clue?
Cheers

I'd go into safe mode
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
and uninstall spybot, also try using system restore
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx
to go back to before you tried to run spybotEx forum ambassador

Mum's lappie takes forever to load, I'm on with it now - I used a link to spybot from one esspresso posted recently for someone, thought it would be idiotproof...0

This correct. If version 1.5 is on the computer then deleted/uninstall it and download a fresh copy of v 1.5.1 from Safer Networking .......the newest version of Spybot is a bit "buggy"
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
See if that helps.
