I will pay a visit to the site next week to see if the "illegal" signs have been removed. Also to keep an eye on if they try and introduce usage restrictions (as the car park was provided for the local shops in place of an old local authority car park which was built on by the store)

It has certainly made a difference in terms of shoppers using the store, used to be a total nightmare visiting in the evenings as due to the road layout queues build up, but the last few times I've flown out. :rotfl:

    Surely that should be
the unlawful advertisements are removed from display AND an advertisement application is submitted
Maybe you should follow up with them to remind them that you cannot apply for advertising consent retrospectively.

You are right of course ... but you need to take into
    account corrupt councils ?
    More so councillors

I thought we'd established previously that unlike planning permission a lack of advertising consent is a criminal offence under section 224 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/8/section/224

Perhaps the OP should ask the Planning Officer concerned if they are going to prosecute Tesco and/or Horizon and if not why not.

I'd also expect a story like this might interest the local press.

They will have to take the signs down anyway, when the GDPR aka Data Protection Act 2017 comes into force in May
Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D

You've posted similar comments in other threads. Would you like to expand on how you think the General Data Protection Regulation will impact on laws around advertising consent for parking signs and/or more generally re private parking?

It will interesting to see how they come to comply with articles 13 and 14:-

  • Love this, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon.

Euro Car Parks have recently been 'contracted to manage' a large supermarket car park near to where I work.

So I thought I would follow the excellent example of Kite2010 and contact the local council because I'm pretty sure they have no advertising consent.

Let's see how they answer :)

A mentioned above Kite, I would ask the council planning people why they haven't instructed the illegal signs to be removed or covered up (as ASDA was forced to do) until and unless advertising consent is granted.

    http://parking-prankster.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/parking-signs-get-winter-jacket-at-asda.html

Also ask what they intend to do about anyone who has fallen foul of the parking scammers and paid money as a result of illegal activities at this site.

The local MP should also be involved.

The illegality of the signs, and the fact that consent cannot and must not be retrospectively applied must be emphasised.

Would it be illegal or unlawful for a concerned private individual to cover up these illegal signs?
