Sometimes its low battery voltage - it does funny things to the security system. Does it crank slowly and sound like its barely going to start?
If not water ingress into one of the door wiring looms, where the wires go through to the doors inside rubber boots, on drivers door, passenger door and tailgate. Usually they connect together (I think Ford's twist together) - separate the connector, clean them up, spray a splash of wd40, or white grease then re-connect.
If its not either of these then it will be a snapped wire, replacing the broken one will sort it, but as someone said you can buy a new loom that just lugs in usually.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -

The engine is sometimes a little bit sluggish, now and again, but always starts. Maybe the battery is a consideration. Thanks for your advice.0 -

Thanks for your post. I wouldn't even attempt to repair it, I wouldn't know where to start. I have been going to the same garage for years, I know if they repaired it for me, they wouldn't rip me off.0 -
It is usually the micro switch on the boot handle. I have done several.
There should be a 3rd button on the remote which will open the boot. If it opens using the button it will be the switch. If not then it is likely the wiring.0 -

Thanks for your reply..... hopefully whatever it is, isn't too expensive to rectify!0
