Help please bt email address

Options
I am after some help please.

I am moving from bt to sky for my broadband, and they have said once I move I loose my email address, or have to pay to keep it.

In english easy terms, could someone please explain how I can transfer years and years worth of bt emails to another email account.

Many thanks

  • Is there a reason why you are frightened of losing your b t email account ? Have you got another independent email account such as google mail ? When you join sky , they will probably have an email address for you when you set up. Just make sure you have a different password for each email address you use . Do not forget to change email address for Netflix / utility providers / bank etc .
Is there something you are afraid of losing on your Bt acct?
    Hope this helps

  • Have you got a printer/ scanner? Or are you talking loads of stuff?

Not sure if maybe you could drag stuff to an external hard drive ??

Install Thunderbird, set it up for your bt e-mail account, and it should download everything that's in your bt mailbox (but not sent items - you would need to forward them to yourself (bt addy) so you will have a copy of them on your pc/laptop. You can then, once the change to sky is running, add your sky e-mail acct to Thunderbird and go from there :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

There is the problem. email isn't designed as a storage system.

Before you lose assess to you BT email you have a couple of "easy but lenghty" options:
1/ If you have a lot of attachements, you could save them, and even some of the emails, one by one onto your computers internal storage.
2/ You could open a free online email account (Yahoo is good as it never deletes emails), and forward the emails you want to keep one by one from BT to the free email.

There is one protential quick but more technical solution, if you can use a email client (like Outlook) to download the entire inbox to your computers local storage as a .pst file. But judging by your question, you perhaps might appreciate a step by step guide to what could be quite a complex process. The starting question for this process is "what applications and devices do you currently use to access your BT emails?"

I can't think of any quick and simple options, sorry.

    1) Possibly other free email addresses like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail can be setup to access your BT email address, then you can copy your emails across to your free email address.

(don't forget to check that everything was copied across ok)

    2) Get/Setup email program like Microsoft Outlook on your computer to download all emails to your computer.

Once downloaded the emails will no longer be online, unless you change program setting beforehand.
