Help me - void policy
Comments

Come to think of it, it really was stupid of me to even think the Broker would give me a policy from DIRECT Line.
Its time to stop referring to him as a broker. This guy is a fraudster.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Indeed! Should've stopped using that term a while back...0

They haven't given me a figure yet. They're constantly passing me on to different departments with no avail. The damage to the Third Party was a dented front fender and that's all. My car is far worse than hers, considering she hit me and then scraped along my Ibiza. In regards to Personal Injury, I know she's claiming, but considering the nature of the incident, she can't be all that hurt. Probably whiplash and some other minor injury.0

Have you reported this thief to the authorities? Recent press stories and TV coverage about these ghost brokers who seemingly target young people with very high premiums, especially students who need a car to travel between uni and home etc. would suggest that the Police are keen to stamp this sort of scam out and have already brought a number of successful prosecutions. Your evidence might just be the last piece of a jigsaw to bring this scumbag to justice.
I realise you've already got a lot on your plate, but stopping these villains and preventing someone else getting caught would help turn some good from it. I hope you're also able to spread the word in the student community about this abhorrent practice and hopefully save others from similar costly mistakes.
I'd certainly be having a word with your so called 'family friend' too!0 -

I also wonder, if you paid the 'broker' (i.e. scumbag) - you just said you 'made the payment' and he in turn paid the insurers, say with a credit card - would any refund on the policy go back to his card and not to you? Or did you end up paying them directly?0

As of yet. I've only told Direct Line. I'll get to the authorities about this too.
In regards to the family friend, before I even told them about my situation they told me about their's. They're 19 year old son took a policy out before me with this fraudster. Two days before my policy was voided, they're son's policy was also voided. So that's two of us in the space of three days! Horrendous!
I cannot stress how vile these scammers are. I really needed my car for commuting, I'm back at stage one:(
I passed first time with only 13 lessons, in November 2017. There I was thinking life would be easier.
Of course, I'm not a fraudster, I'm no criminal, in fact I'm studying to become the antithesis of a criminal.
Does anyone know how I can possibly get insured now? With a voided policy and my age, it seems impossible.

I'm sorry this has happened to you - it's not a good way to start your life as an adult and your university career. You'd think that there might be a little more sympathy for the party that thought they were insured, when after all, they're the victim of a crime. It's not like you're the same as some insurance dodger who doesn't insure because the fines are lower than the premiums - yet the law (and insurance industry) seemingly treats you the same.
This might be another good reason to talk to the Police, they can maybe give you some pointers on future insurance or help you move it forward.0 -
I'd like to just thank you for your kindness. I was quite shocked by the insurance company's response, considering I didn't do this on my own accord. Guess it's out my hands.0
