Other driver saying I owe him money

Can only agree with everyone else on this. Irrespective of an increase to your premium, you should report this to your insurer.
You're not too late, it only happened last night.... and you have clear mitigating circumstances. I.e. Last night you believed there to be no damage to either vehicle, but you have now been approached by the other party.
Tell your insurers, then contact him and tell him you have done so, and he must therefore now contact his insurers for a resolution. *I'll bet you the cost of the "damage" you wont hear from him again!!
*not really - I don't bet! ;-)0 -
everyone else has got it right! just for reassurance though, i was hit whilst parked in a car park once and they drove off. i declared it, although never actually made a claim as it was only cosmetic and not worth it. It DID show up on my renewal after as a claim, but i contacted the insurers and they amended their records and now i no longer have to declare anything, so my premiums havent been effected.0

Thanks for the replies. I have checked my pictures again and again and there is NO damage to either car at all.
A mechanical engineer (privately) has checked over and everything is fine so the other driver is lying for money.
We are telling him to go through the insurance then if they're so desperate to repair the scratches and see what he says to that..... He'll make a claim against me, I won't make a claim so he'll lose his excess to repair scratches and insurance will go up on both sides. I'll live.
Thanks all x0 -

Don't be bullied. He is just trying it on - you pay up and he walks away with your cash and you have no come back.
Just report it to your insurers and block his number.0 -
Another update - I have spoken to someone who used to work in insurance and she thinks that I could potentially be found as 100% at fault for it, even though he was on the wrong side of the road and speeding. She said it is known as 'rta from car leaving side road' or something. So my insurance would have to pay for the scratches we can't even see. However this lady hasn't worked in insurance for over 10 years so hoping it's unreliable!0

Dash cams people!!0

Don't get me started on dash cams!!!
I have one front and back. It was on at the time of the accident. It was recording. When I got home and plugged it into my laptop, that half an hour time slot had be erased. I have the journey there, I have the journey home but that half an hour is gone. I used recuva software to bring the file back but the file has been corrupted. I'm fuming.0 -
There is a chance that if it does become a claim you will be found to be at fault as you were leaving a side road and entering a main road so should only have done so when safe to do so. Saying you were going slowly as you couldn't see isn't the best response.0

Although the highway code states that you can merge onto a main road slowly to get a better view of the road your about to merge into, it also states that its your responsibility to ensure that the way is clear and if in doubt youhave the option of reversing a few feet and doing a 3 point turn and find an alternative exit to the road your on.
Even if they are on the "wrong side of the road" (theres actually no such thing, white lines are hazard warning lines alerting you your about to head into oncoming traffic) and speeding (although without a speed gun and being calibrated and your friend being trained to use it an opinion of speed doesn't stack up in a court therefore not counted for insurance witness or insured statements.
As per the pressure from the other driver, it could be possible he is pulling a fast one. easy way to find out is taking him up on his offer of going round and having a look, pull your car up to the damage take a photo if the high mark line up, then there you go if the don't, then he's taking the P, Like other has said, You can go to your insurance, show them photo's of the car of the night it happened, show them of the re enactment, and if the don't match tell them he could be possibly trying it on. I would also report him to police if they don't match as try to extort money with threats of going through insurance that's fraud with menaces and carries a prison sentence also backs you up.0
