British Gas Fix March 2019 - not the cheapest?
Options
Been looking for the last week to switch suppliers on cheap energy club to sort out my gas/elec as my fix EDF deal coming to an end.
Got the MSE email this morning about the British Gas Fix March 2019 deal, and it was to be cheaper than the other big names....... when I put all my details in EON, EDF and First Utility are all cheaper......
Anyone know why?

Ellie - a couple of points. If a PCW offers a share of its referral fee, then this is included in the annual cost. Conversely, if a supplier is offering a Friends and Family discount (Bulb; Tonik; Octopus et al) then the tariff on a PCW will not show this discount. You have to apply via the supplier (through a link) to get it. Ofgem believes that greater innovation will encourage more people to switch!!!
I have just checked, EDF and SP are showing a cheaper dual fuel deal than BG's offer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The MSE claim appears to include the £25 cashback for a dual fuel switch carried out by the CEC.
The MSE claim is also presumably based on an average user, and based on an average over the whole country.
You probably fail on the first limb, and certainly would on the second as that is simply an average - prices will vary by individual supply regions.
Consult the CEC, and choose the cheapest supplier and tariff that suits you0 -
There is nt much in it from all three with average use. A small saving from BG to Scot Power and Eon.
The downsides is that Eon will be trying to foist the worlds worst and cheapest smart meters on to you, the made in India Secure Liberty meters and Scot Power will mess up the billing somewhere along the line. Personally I would stick with good old BG the UKs most popular supplier by a country mile. They are the best run with a properly funded call centre who will at least answer you within a few minutes if ever you need them.
If you are not bothered about a good service I would nt go with any of the big 6 and just go for who will bill you the lowest tariffs/standing charges.0 -
Not via the cheap energy club but I've been looking at this too and EDF shows a saving of £308, while this BG tariff saves £225. So miles off even with the £25 cash back.0

Unless you are moving from a standard variable tariff, the savings will be wrong. Just compare annual cost now with the annual cost for the tariffs shown on MSE CEC.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Confused me too. I’m in the North-West and EON is showing as far cheaper than BG. Not sure why the MSE is claiming the new BG offer as “the cheapest of the big 6”?0

Hi Youandwhosearmy (and others)
The figures in MSE's weekly email are based on Ofgem's average usage figures across all regions. The British Gas tariff costs £901 per year, whereas the next cheapest big 6 provider tariff is Eon at £923.
As always, you'll need to run a personalised comparison so you can check what option works out best for you.0
