OE qualty or OES quality

I'm looking to buy 2 drop links and 2 track control arms but should I choose one that's OE quality or one that's made to OES (Original Equivalent Specification)

  • They are two different ways of saying the same thing.

    Pattern parts.

    It's all semantics.

There's manufacturer-branded parts. Then there's OE parts - which are from the company that supplied the manufacturer, but in their own box. Then there's pattern of various qualities, from top-notch down to that wonderful eBay-special cheese-chocolate alloy.

What car, and what brands are you looking at?

Not enough information. Some pattern parts are fine, others (especially suspension items like these) will barely make it a year.

How long do you intend to the keep the car? what make/model? what brand pattern parts? Will you be fitting them yourself (ie. labour is effectively free) or paying a garage?

Go to your local motor factor, buy what they sell. With the state of our roads it doesn't matter whether you even used genuine bought from the dealer drop links, you're likely to be replacing them often.

The car is a 2008 Toyota yaris and I intend to keep the car as long as possible so I want a brand that's going to last. I will be fitting the parts myself so I contacted euro car parts and they said TRW and Lemforder are the best suspension components but TRW and Lemforder are OE quality products and Starline is made to OES (Original Equivalent Specification) TRW comes with 1 year Warranty, and Lemforder and Starline comes with 2 years Warranty. If I was to buy drop links from euro car parts they sell brands from lemforder, trw, starline but they only sell starline track control arms.

TRW and Lemforder are both major suppliers to car manufacturers - OE. Which any particular manufacturer uses is probably somewhat flexible.

Never heard of Starline. I'd be avoiding...

Looking down what's available on another site:

The £46 Delphi looks to be the best value there, if the side you want's the one in stock... If you need passenger side, then I'd be getting the £60 Monroe. Both are major OE suppliers.
  • TRW and Lemforder are now owned by the same company, but weren't in 2008. I would go with OE if I wanted quality reassurance

Lots of naughty sellers taking advantage of OE.

OE Quality = Its a cheap crappy pattern part but we think (with crosed fingers) its the same quality as the original fitted item?

What about OEM.. About as close as it gets. Although who knows if the stuff they sell in their own boxes is really identical to the ones that pack in the expensive car manufacturers box?

Audi wanted something like £400 for a heater motor on an A4, GSF sold the same brand item for £80.

Identical except the date code stamped on the casing.

I work for an OEM and yes its the same parts. Price difference is the mark up the car manufacturer makes.

  • I work for a large component supplier. For us an OE part goes to the car on the production line while an OES is exactly the same part but under a different (sparea) part number.
