IPlayer HD streams are a lot more than that. You cant stream SD without buffering at much less than 3. If you have virgin you wont be needing sky. The proportion of the UK population who can get anywhere near the max current FTTC speeds is tiny. The average is 16.5 which hasnt changed for years. At current rollout the UK is at least a decade away from being able to honestly say streaming 7 HD channels simultaneously is something other than only the luckiest tiny percentage of the population can do

I used to be limited to a maximum of 2Mbps ADSL until 3 years ago when fibre was available - I picked TalkTalk, purely down to cost and due to my proximity to the box - I connect at a genuine 70Mbps now - that's a pretty substantial step up..

Hyperoptic, B4RN and Cityfibre all offer up to 1Gbps.

Virgin can supply 300meg to anyone who is connected to their network.

Openreah FTTP is up to 330meg. FTTC up to 80meg.

For example, BBC Iplayer HD streams are about 3mbps. With my 60meg I could stream 15 simultaenous shows with more than enough bandwidth to spare for browsing.

Netflix uses about 5mbps, so even then, I could stream 10 with plenty of bandwidth to spare.

I imagine it!!!8217;s a very very small percentage of Sky Q users who regularly watch/record 6 shows at a time.

When are there more than 2 channels showing simultaneous programs that anyone wants to watch anyway ?

Whch is why I said it would apply to ony a small number of customers :)

That said, if you have a main box and 3 mini boxes for kids bedrooms then it would be pretty easy to be watching 4 and recording a 5th, 6th or 7th show.

Technology does appear to have overtaken the quality of content on television.

I'm certain it's all subjective though.

Are you certain there are never occasions when there are multiple programmes you want to watch all showing at the same time?

If not, I'd question the suitability of multi-channel television in your case...;)

Whats the point of being able to record 6 or 7 channels at tbe same time - when catchup TV exists ?

As I said, technology has overtaken quality. Regardless, having the ability to record so many simultaneously does not mean you have to often avail yourself of it.
