Seat prices! Grr!

Just wanted a quick rant.

We're flying to Venice next month and back from Milan. The best timed flights were to fly out with BA and back with easyJet.

I went to book seats this week. British Airways charge £19 per seat. Equivalent seat with easyJet is less than a fiver!

It may be Britain's favourite airline but it's not mine at the moment.

The flipside is that BA's seats are free to select when online check-in opens whereas EJ's seats will always cost money to prebook.

It's a real victory for the airline industry that they've managed to convince the general public that they must pre-book seats, and indeed pay for the privilege.

I've never done it, and the only time I've been split up is on Ryanair who we know will deliberately separate you. Never been a problem on any other airline when checking in nice and early.
  • If you book a BA seat after check in, having ensured you check in online and early, it'll be free and 23-24 hours prior to departure there'll almost certainly be space where you can sit together.

I believe now however if you buy the handbaggage only fare on BA whilst you will be allocated a free seat assignment at OLCI, if you wish to move seats you will now be charged.

    £19 blimey.

Ive got two one way flights from LA to LHR in business, paid with avios and £766 in "tax", yet they want £95.00 per seat to choose our seats. Oddly our flights out to SFO in upper on virgin arent subject to a charge for seat selection
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

Yes, mine are hand luggage only. I've not flown with BA for some years so this is new to me. I'd foolishly made the assumption that seats might be a similar price on most airlines. Next time ( if there is a next time with BA ) I'll sit wherever. I can manage without my DH for a couple of hours! :rotfl:

If you haven't flown BA for a while, you may be in for a shock at their decline in service. We flew to Lisbon with them recently. It was like being on Ryanair without the organisation! The situation with the baggage is a shambles, especially where they pick out people with hand baggage and make then put it in the hold. We got the impression that the cabin staff were exasperated with the way things have gone with BA now.

They can't just magically conjure up overhead locker space. On full flights, it's almost a given that not everyone will get to bring their bags on board. It has nothing to do with the airline, it's simply a question of what will physically fit onboard.

Of course, you can argue that their carry-on allowance is too generous or that it should be policed better but that's another issue.
