Suffolk_lass wrote: »Re your OD charges, they do seem extraordinarily high. Is this an arranged OD? If not, that is your first step. This means you only get charged the agreed interest rate and no fee each month. If your bank won't do it, look to swap to one that offers a free OD up to x amount and then work to stay inside that.
You mentioned taking your card as an emergency fallback on nights out.
I used to do several things.
1. Put £100 in cash, in an envelope or some sort of zipped compartment and keep that as your "get stuck emergency fund" - taxi home if left stranded, that sort of thing.
2. Put your card in a sealed envelope with a note to yourself on the envelope that reminds you what you are doing if you use it
3. Intersperse the reckless-inducing alcohol with a glass of water - it is marvellous for your wallet and your head the next day
Re the suggestion of a soup-maker. In your financial circumstances this should be a saucepan, which I am guessing you already have. A wand mixer could be added for a fraction of the cost if you don't have a liquidiser/mixer. Anything else is a gadget that takes up space in your cupboard to do one thing, where your mixer/liquidiser can do multi things (smoothies, milk-shakes, etc)
Have you checked out the self-help forums regarding your washing machine? I managed to find out what the actual problem was for mine on the white goods forum (the door would not release at the end of the cycle). I bought the part on-line but it remains in its packaging because the forum interim no-cost fix just continues to work (two years on)
I love the water idea! :rotfl: I definitely need to do that! My hangovers the next day  Just not even worth it!! If I took extra cash out with me, I would spend it. No doubt about that. But I do like the idea of my card in a sealed envelope with a note to myself on it! I really like that!! I think it could work. We shall see for next time!
I'll have a look at a wand mixer, because I do love smoothies etc too!!
Re the washing machine - I'll scoot over to the self help forums and have a look. Hopefully its an easy fix! In all honesty though, me and the OH are s*** at DIY stuff, I think it we gave it go ourselves , we would probably end up breaking it even more :rotfl:My CC - Feb 18 £849.69 July 18 £0.00

O don't be thinking I am some sort of capable repair person! the most valuable bit of advice I got was that you have to thump the handle as if you were shoving someone to make them take a step back, but not fall over (that sort of heel of your hand sharp whomp, not a full Popeye arm swing or anything) and it jerks the control into door release. That has sorted it for me.

Morning everyone!
Nothing much to report, things are tickling along nicely. I renewed my car insurance through TCB yesterday, its £13.44 less per month, which I've allocated to a house renovations pot, rather that just frittering it away. :j
We did spend a little bit of money this weekend on a chippy and a couple of drinks, but that just came out of the EF, which will be replaced on Friday when I get paid. We don't want to make a habit of doing that, and we definitely wont, as that's not what the EF is for, and we realise that now. But its was only around £50.00 and at least it wasn't being put on a credit card, which is nice.
The washing machine repair man is coming out on Friday morning. We have tried everything to fix it but we just cant. So, its £50-70 for them to just come out, and then however much to fix it.
I'm just wishing the months away at the moment, which I HATE doing. I want to be present, and live my life now, but I just hate owing money and I want this debt gone. It'll be better from may pay day, as I will be throwing around £600.00 per month at the debt then, because we'll have finished saving all our money for our holiday to Bali (We haven't put a penny of it on a credit card).
So, 4 days left until pay day, and then I can play around with the figures again :j

Is it pay day yet?
Mother nature has hit me in full force this morning, and I'm feeling very sorry for myself. I just want to spend loads of money on icecream and chocolate to make me feel better, but A: That's money I don't want to spend and B: my waistline won't thank me for it.
I got hardly anything done yesterday as I was so incredibly tired, I couldn't bring myself to get up off the sofa (now I know why) so I'm hoping I'm a little bit more pro active today.
The £5 that I got from Swagbuckz has gone into my PP account. I'm undecided whether to pay it off debt, or to save it and earn more and then buy something I want.

I find myself wishing the month away too.... dreaming of buying something nice come pay day and with all the debt repayments its not even like I have much to play with when pay day gets here!

Morning everyone! :j
Only two days until pay day for me. I spent £9.00 todayDammit! Haha. I used the £5.00 I got from Swagbuckz and an extra £4.00 and spent it on food. Obviously. So annoyed at myself! I haven't even got an excuse! I just need to draw a line under it, and keep going. I still haven't spent anything on the CCs this month. We actually haven't added to our debts this month at all, and have paid off a whopping total of £84.74. It isn't a lot at the moment because we are saving for our holiday to Bali in May, which we've done all by ourselves (not put a thing of it on CC's). Once this holiday is out the way, we will be paying off so much more and it will be so much more motivating watching the numbers come down dramatically. Just need to have a little self restraint until then.
I FINALLY went back to the gym last night (its free for me as my OH's Uncle owns a gym) so its very MSE. I used to pay to go to another gym, as I've put on around 2.5 stone in two years, which knocked my confidence so I didn't want to see my OHs family all the time. However, I've sucked it up, and got my butt in there to 1: Save money because its free and 2: It will motivate me more to lose the weight. :T
TO DO LIST:
- Free Gym: arms today as my legs are gone for about a week now after last night DONE
- Make healthy dinner from stores DONE
- Make mine and OH lunches for tomorrow from stores not done
- Tidy living room/bathroom/kitchen and give them all a quick wipe down DONE
- Take washing to my parents house (washing machine is getting fixed on Saturday) not done
- Hang up wet washing not done
- Put away clean, dry washing not done
- Share bath with OH DONE
- Pamper myself from my own stash: paint nails, pluck eyebrows, facemask, cleanse, tone, moisturise. not done
- Read some of my book (Not buying anymore until I've read most of the ones I own. not done
- Get on top of my workload at my job as I want a promotion. If I'm on top of my own work, I will be available to help others/learn new skills etc. DONE

Ohhh, popcorn! That's a good idea - but the only flavour I really, really love it the popcorn that's covered in loads of chocolate :roftl: Whoops!
Let me know if you did run! I finally went back to the gym last night and did legs! Absolutely killed me. I tried to do a quick run on the treadmill afterwards, and only got a half mile in. :A I'll try again tonight!
It is slightly frustrating on paydays. All of my money is allocated to something already, so I know I cant really buy anything either! I just keep saying to myself, the quicker I'm out of debt, the faster that the money I earn will actually be mine to spend! My CC - Feb 18 £849.69 July 18 £0.00

I did run... feeling very smug, it was more of a run/ walk but we shall ignore that... also took our fat dog (we left her with a friend for 3 weeks while we went to SA and I came home to a right tubster!) she was fab and I really enjoyed it... also her calm sleepiness in the evening.
I love salted popcorn so its good snack as I don't have much salt in my diet.
I have an allowance each month so can spend on activities/ shopping of whatever...... just need to make it last this month!
With your debt repayment....... remember its not just what you have paid off... if you were used to putting £200 a month on the cc for instance, you have made cut backs of £286!Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0
