Morning!
Not much to tell at the moment. Everything is running along nicely (except my washing machine)
Had another NSD yesterday, brought my lunch to work again today. So far so good!
I think I'm so focused on clearing this debt, I've lost focus elsewhere. I've had clean washing in the spare bedroom for about two weeks now :rotfl:
Googled some soup recipes last night. I really like the idea of a butternut squash soup, or tomato and basil. So next time we go shopping, I'll make sure to get the ingredients for that to batch cook over the weekend.
I need to stop being lazy and actually finish my to do lists that I'm setting for myself. I don't think the weather helps. I just want to get a blanket and watch TV. My OH doesn't help either, hes watching Fr!ends for the first time through (I've seen every episode multiple times) but I just end up watching them with him.

Basic recipe soften onion, celery and carrot (or any combination thereof) add chicken or vegetable stock (made with stock cubes is fine) and then throw in whatever you fancy (lentils, noodles, rice, broth mixture etc). Great for using up all those annoying tiny bits of left over chicken and a chilli added at the softening vegetable stage gives it a little bit of kick. Basically just experiment. It will save you a fortune rather than buying tins.
Thanks Toni'sFriend, this is a great idea. We ALWAYS, have left over rice and noodles. We always just threw them away, which I absolutely hate doing as I'm trying to reduce our waste. Thanks for the tip! I'm going to give some a go this weekend. My CC - Feb 18 £849.69 July 18 £0.00

Morning!
Nothing much to report still! I had a NSD yesterday. The OH didn't, as he nipped to the shop for some light mayo, and then told me he bought a £1 Easter egg and ate that on the way back :rotfl: But I've took that out of the food money, and we are still on track with that, so I won't call it a disaster. I've bought my lunch to work again today, so proud of myself this week.
Our washing machine is still broken. We have one option left to try and fix it, if not, we are going to have to buy a new one.Bye bye emergency fund.
Our budgets are ticking along nicely this month. For the first time ever.
We have a meal out tomorrow for my Aunties 50th birthday, but we've both checked what we are having on the menu, and it will be less than £20.00, which is what we budgeted for it. Its then Mothers Day on Sunday, with I've budgeted £55.00 for. But I really don't want to spend that. After my disaster with group0n, I decided to just ring a place and book us directly. Its £36 for the both of us, so a little saving will be made there too.
TO-DO List

How have I only just discovered mortgage overpayment calculators... it's addictive! Total priority once out of debt!Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0

I am so annoyed at myself.
I overspent on my Aunties birthday and on Mothers day. Both due to alcohol. I honestly think I'm rich when I've had a few drinks. PLEASE tell me someone has a solution to help me stop throwing my money away when I'm a little merry. It ruins everything. I know some people will say "just don't drink" but I'm young, I'm not in LOADS of debt, and I want to enjoy my life. I also refuse to leave my card at home, because if any emergencies happened, I don't know what I could do. I just need to rein it in. I spent £25.05 more than I had budgeted for this weekend. I know its not loads of money, but it all adds up. Considering I budgeted £55.00 for Mothers Day, there was no need to spend any more than that, but did I? Yes. Though, it was probably the best day me and my mum have had in ages. But still!!
Never mind, as long as I'm not spending on my credit card, which I haven't. I have nothing more coming up this month, so I have to be good. Its payday next Friday, so just have to make it until then.
Well, I also have to renew my car insurance this month on the 17th. But I've found some really good deals on TCB, so I will be doing that. We need to call the plumber out to fix out washing machine, with is going to cost a bit. But that's what we have the emergency fund for.
Still up to date with our food money. Both me and OH are still bringing lunch to work, we've actually saved lots of money doing this tbh. :j
I'm just going to draw a line under last weekend, and continuing going forward. Its the first time since I started my diary that I sort of took my eyes off the prize - even if it was only for a second.

Morning everyone,
I didn't get much done last night, as I ended up going to my mums for a cuppa. She's currently washing mine and OH clothes as our washing machine is broken. Its £70.00 just to get someone to come and look at it.
I spent £1.50 this morning on a drink. I haven't done that in ages and its made me feel slightly guilty. I do like paying off debt and watching the numbers go down but I hate this feeling of guilt. I never had that before I found MSE. I guess I'll just have to get rid of the debt faster. At least then, when I spend any money, its MY money. :j
I quit the gym at the beginning of my diary - I didn't see the point in paying for it when my OH is qualified as a personal trainer - we have a first session tonight. I wonder if HE will survive? :rotfl:
Also, my OD charges are so expensive! Its really annoying! £22.82 was taken from me last night. BooI think I'm going through a "feeling sorry for myself" stage at the moment, and really lacking in motivation.

How close are you to paying off your overdraft, it could be worth looking at getting a 0% money transfer card to pay it off so you stop paying interest and then the discipline is to actually close your overdraft!
I have linked savers in my app for the account so if its a big night out and I know OH in particular starts to get very generous, I only put in the amount budgeted and then have more in the linked account so in an emergency can transfer it over but it takes me actively choosing to steal the money from there and puts me off!
Good luck with pt session.... I would end up murdering my OH!Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0 -
Re your OD charges, they do seem extraordinarily high. Is this an arranged OD? If not, that is your first step. This means you only get charged the agreed interest rate and no fee each month. If your bank won't do it, look to swap to one that offers a free OD up to x amount and then work to stay inside that.
You mentioned taking your card as an emergency fallback on nights out.
I used to do several things.
1. Put £100 in cash, in an envelope or some sort of zipped compartment and keep that as your "get stuck emergency fund" - taxi home if left stranded, that sort of thing.
2. Put your card in a sealed envelope with a note to yourself on the envelope that reminds you what you are doing if you use it
3. Intersperse the reckless-inducing alcohol with a glass of water - it is marvellous for your wallet and your head the next day
Re the suggestion of a soup-maker. In your financial circumstances this should be a saucepan, which I am guessing you already have. A wand mixer could be added for a fraction of the cost if you don't have a liquidiser/mixer. Anything else is a gadget that takes up space in your cupboard to do one thing, where your mixer/liquidiser can do multi things (smoothies, milk-shakes, etc)
Have you checked out the self-help forums regarding your washing machine? I managed to find out what the actual problem was for mine on the white goods forum (the door would not release at the end of the cycle). I bought the part on-line but it remains in its packaging because the forum interim no-cost fix just continues to work (two years on)Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £564.77 out of £6000 after January
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £301.10/£3000 or 10.04% of my annual spend so far[/COLOR] annual

I don't know where my post from yesterday has gone?? Looks like its been deleted. Oh well.
I went through the food money pot yesterday, to check if we had enough in there to get us through until Thursday 22nd - as I get paid on Friday! and we had £55.00 in there!! That is MORE than enough! I'm so proud of me and OH. We've both religiously took lunch to work everyday (Except maybe 2 or 3 days) and we've really noticed how much our bank balances have improved. Its so much easier to budget your money when you're not trying to remember what you've whacked on contactless.
SO, because we've been such good little :A we both agreed this morning that we can take £5.00 each and buy ourselves a nice lunch. I know that £10.00 could go towards debt, but I do think we really deserve this. And at least we are discussing it, and budgeting for it, instead of just doing it.
Need to buy my car insurance tomorrow. That will be done through TCB, so I'm hoping to get a good deal and a little bit of money there.
I've been really looking into how to be more productive through the day, because I find I'm just so lazy when I get home from work everyday. I reaaalllyy want to be a morning person, everyone seems to get so much done in the mornings, but I can just never bring myself to get out of bed before 8am. But I've been watching YT videos, and I want to give it go. I feel that if I get up, exercise, make my bed, have a nice breakfast, tidy the house a little, then go to work, I will feel SO positive and motivated, I wouldn't want to eat s*** because I've exercised, helping my weightloss, making me feel good about myself, therefore spending less money, and it all just makes sense in my head. :rotfl: I'm rambling.. Sorry
TO DO List
- Make dinner from stores
- Put clean, dry washing away (MUST do this today)
- Menu plan up until Thursday

- Research ways into how to get out of bed early
