BBC Red button - Winter Olympics

OK, it sounds like your gripe is indeed editorial rather than bandwidth-related. I think they have a strategy of keeping the 'main channel' output flexible so they can follow whatever most exciting (read: Team GB-related) activity is going on. For casual viewers dipping in this might help ensure they see a mix of interesting goings-on, but for those wanting to sit down and watch a particular event through from start to finish it is probably infuriating!0

Thank you. You have expressed it much better than I did and I'm sure you are right about the BBC's policy here.0 -
The number of times they repeatedly repeat things annoys me, a typical example being today, on BBC1 at 1250 they showed the interview with Elise Christie yet again after she went out with a yellow card once more, then at 1300 they switch channels to BBC2 and what do they show only the same interview again.
I can appreciate some people may have missed it but twice within a few minutes.:mad:0 -
No I disagree. The commentators do a great job. There will be a considerable number of them jetting off to Portugal shortly for a song contest.
No issue with the quality of the commentary. My point is why do BBC need more than any other country? I would rather see that money used to support the athletes. :A"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

That's because they swap coverage from beeb 2 to beeb 1, and then back to beeb 2 so they can carry the news on 1. I don't know why they just don't leave it on 2 throughout the morning.
(EDIT: I presume they do it in some attempt to minimise complaints from regular viewers who can't see their favourite programmes on 1 and 2. But it would still seem more sensible - and less disruptive - if they just kept daytime coverage on 2).
Also (off topic), I know Elise Christie had a an absolutely horrible time on social media after Soichi, but I don't quite understand BBC TV's apparent obsession with her. Her tactics seem a bit reckless to me (but I'm no expert).
Interestingly they were discussing her performance on Radio 5 about 45 minutes ago, and their analysis was more critical and the questions they were asking themselves more searching than what you get on TV.0 -
No complaints about the beeb 2 coverage of the Women's bobsleigh this morning - although we didn't see all the second run.
Ironically, I almost didn't watch it because I'd got completely caught up watching the Biathlon Mixed Relay on the red button(!). I used to do a bit of shooting and I don't understand how they do it. The accuracy is amazing - after a cross-country skiing loop!
Fortunately I caught up with it later on the red button(!).
So give the Beeb some credit then...0 -
They're doing it again with the closing ceremony! (Whoever watches it?).
Why don't they show highlights of today's events on the red button? Why do they show the same thing on both channels?
I stayed up until almost 3am to watch the four man bob but then I was completely knackered having got up at 6am yesterday. I would have liked to watch the men's hockey final live, but I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer! Why aren't they showing highlights on the red button?
I know there are highlights scheduled on the red button later today, but what if you can't watch at that time?
At the moment the red button coverage is wholly redundant!
(Apologies for the rant, but this is the Vent board).
Thank God it's over and the BBC can't muck up the coverage any further. Although I'll probably go into withdrawal as I invariably do after any major sporting event - except football.0 -
I thought the whole idea for the red button was to show other coverage of other event/s, similar to what happened during the World Cup in 2010.0

Not logical is it, lets hope they get it right for the World cup.0
