Wayleave Agreement

I have been contacted by a company called Sherwill Drake Forbes regarding a wayleave agreement for electricity apparatus on my property.


I have a wooden pole & stay for low voltage electricity & I agreed for SDF to contact the supply company, Northern Power Grid (Yorkshire) on my behalf.


SDF have now written to me stating that they have been successful in setting up a new agreement resulting in a one-off payment of £289 for a 30 year term & asking that I sign & return a form to complete the process.


However, when reading further, the payments are broken down as below.


Monies due in from Northern Power Grid
Agreed wayleave payment. £289.00
NPG agent's fee contribution inc VAT (to be retained by SDF) £150.00
Total In £439.00


Monies due to client
Agreed wayleave payment. £289.00
Less 20% + VAT SDF fees) (20% + VAT) £69.36


Balance payable to you. £219.64


So it appears that SDF are being paid by both sides to the tune of £219.36 or about 50% of the total paid by NPG.


Is this reasonable?

Would have been in the original agreement with them , didn't you read the terms ?

And it's on the forms you sign

"The company may be eligible for a fee to be paid by the electricity company and in addition charge up to 24% of the total negotiated"

The equivalent of a PPI claim , you could have gone direct rather than via a 3rd party for a fee

Yes, I read the terms. No mention that 50% of the money received from Northern Powergrid would be withheld.

They are only charging you 24% of your payment

How does £69.36 represent 50% of £289.00??? :huh:

Thanks for the sarky remark but maybe you need to ask your English teacher about your ability to read the question?
It clearly states that "SDF are being paid by both sides to the tune of £219.36 or about 50% of the total paid by NPG."

Yes totally 100%.
You are getting your settlement minus the agreed fee and SDF are getting the fee from the electricity company that the contract you signed agreed they could. See post #3 from browntoa to the term that is on the contract you signed.

Can't remember how I did mine but a quick google and search on their site gave me the answers.
No need to use an agent.
